Post by lancfan »

We will begin the shared build for this kit on January 5 2013 when SJPOneil returns home for the new year, there are currently three of us with mightymikeD and we will each begin the build in our own time on that date.

I am a starter (and, noting current track record) hopefully a finisher!! I should be fully recovered from the holiday hell joy of caravanning by the 5th and good to go to get into this build...

I am just looking at the reference material that David has sent me offline and already have a hankering to pose this in-flight....

Just if anyone else was thinking of joining the build some inspiration and light reading while we count down to the 5th of January:

In less than three hours it will be 5 January 2013 in the UK so as we are in different time zones I will make a token start then and we can each begin in our own time.
My model will be a current issue kit and will be finished in Condor Legion Markings.

As evidence of how well this kit has stood the test of time, here are the SB fuselage halves with the same parts from my stashed original bagged kit. Apart from the colour of the plastic they are identical and the current boxing does not show any real age. The cockpit will next be slightly tweaked before the halves are glued together.

I'm here...the weather has been so good since we got home from our caravan holiday with the grandtwins that we have been going hard on outside projects and I have been quite shattered at the end of each day so my big ambitions of hitting the ground running on this one have been somewhat eroded...

My journey, though, starts here, in Kitbase, jogging my flagging memory as to the precise whereabouts of the Hs-123 which I have not seen for a long time...

...which lead me up here...

...to Bin #3...

Image

...which proved to be a bit of a treasure trove that shut down productivity for some time last night...but finally I had the one I sought...

I was surprised to find that some assembly had already occurred as I have no recollection of building this model since my first hack at it in January 1974. The joins are pretty awful so I'm wondering if this was originally a rescue kit - Kitbase only tells me that I acquired it in Singapore in March 1988 but has no record or notes of any work being done on it.

It's all there but one of the prop blades has come loose which nudges me towards maybe a spinning disk prop, especially since the kit comes with a decent pilot (aaah, the good old days!!) and a stand (again, aaaah, the good old days!).

Building will start tomorrow by tidying up the joins on the fuselage and fuel tank...

Here's the kit shot. Had to figure out how to upload etc., and still I can't decide what theme/scheme to use. I'll start with the small bits and maybe there'll be a some idea. We'll see if the upload went OK.

I was looking at the overall white scheme like the one at the top of the photo since it's white all around me right now.
