You guys will have to go on without me..

The kit that I was promised faithfully was stashed for me at a not-so-local HS was nowhere to be found (my guess is sold) when I trekked down there today. Emergency call to Hannants yielded no result either.. so a not-so-quick trawl around every Model Shop in West London ensued.. nada.

Very dissapointed, sorry gents.

A slightly simplified but basically accurate cockpit has been added. The next step will be to paint and weather this down and assemble the fuselage halves.

Oh Oh, David. You are getting serious with this one. Very nice.

The cockpit is now finished and is shown here before the fuselage was joined together, the glue is now drying on that and when that stage is ready I will fix the upper decking in place.

The fuselage is now closed up and the seams have been cleaned up. I have been charging at this a little so will give this a short rest whilst everyone catches up.

Did it a little in the cockpit. Added a few pieces on the side and made the seat look a little more like the seat should. Added belts. When I test fit the gun cowling, I can see I need a some controls and a bit of floor, so those will go in next. Not too bad for the first model in over ten years.

Finished off the cockpit with a control stick and instrument panel, closed it in, added the wing. Need to fill a few gaps and smooth some edges. The engine's painted and next to be test fitted and one piece of detail added. Better photo, my iPod doesn't take good pictures at all.

Looking good Dave, the first pictures were a little grainy but the work still showed through though.

My model as it now stands, a couple of small parts to add and painting can commence.

One of things I love about this kit is the fusealge struts are moulded to the fuselage so you don't have to play around with angles etc Too bad Airfix didn't stick to that idea for their other bi planes.

I wonder if they remember this feature when they make the new Gladiator tools.

The underside has been painted and the demarcation line has been masked for the upper camouflage, work will pause now as I finish my flying boat GB entry.

Good progress, David...and a good job that Dave joined you. Whatever happened to Simon?
The old Monogram biplanes had the moulded-on cabanes, as did some of the old Revell. Matchbox didn't quite follow, but the Hs.123 was moulded late enough for Airfix to recognise and to take advantage of the technique. (A lot of the older Airfix biplanes were significantly older, if you get my drift).

Are you enjoying the Henschel and, perhaps more importantly, would you recommend it? Does it merit Gem status, for example?

Regards,
Bruce

Bruce, these are all points to be covered in the conclusion to my build of this kit.
And yes, I would recommend it, especially as a first biplane.
