The wings have been attached to the fuselage and the joints filled, the elevators have been removed from the tailplanes which are also now fitted to the fuselage and a cockpit coaming has been added from plastic card.

This is indeed a worthwhile old kit David and you are both doing sterling work with it -the Hornet is such a nice looking aircraft. I also like the Milliput idea for the cockpit, good bit of thinking that is.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Thanks Martin, this is a very nice kit to build. Plenty of possibilities for improvements, if you can be bothered, but also it should look good straight out of the box.

Prices should start to climb on eBay if we set a trend... :)

cheers

I must get one of these quick before they all get sold out.

That's a great idea for the cockpit, I suspect it would help with tail sitters as well.

Ran out of miliput for the canopy mould, have used Fila 'Das' modelling clay instead which will take longer to dry enough to finally shape (have put it on the radiator in the modelling room) in the meantime the model is now primed and ready for the colour coats. I have decided to finish my model in the later Grey/PRU Blue scheme as this uses post-war roundels which I prefer for this model, will replace these with Xtradecal roundels with better colours than the kit bosses, only using the serials etc. from the Frog sheet.

The model is now in its basic colours, gloss varnish will be applied next followed by the decals.

I'm falling behind a bit, because exam season is in full swing. I'm hoping to get some painting in this evening!

That looks very good David :)

The decals are now on, I chose the 19 squadron markings from RAF Church Fenton in 1950 and used aftermarket roundels for this model because Frog used the same red and blue for both sets of roundels, colours that perfectly suited the low visibility 41 squadron markings but were wrong for the later peacetime colours used by 19 squadrons' CO at that time.
It speaks volumes for the quality of Frog decals that even after all these years they went on perfectly and had not yellowed at all. The next step will be to matt varnish the whole airframe before continuing.
