The navigation lights have been installed and painted with clear green and red. They have not been covered with clingfilm yet.

Now I am intrigued. 'covered with clingfilm'? Is this some technique to make them shiny? Can you please elaborate, Andrew.

David
Yes, you cover them with a little piece of clingfilm, held in place with Future/Pledge/Klear/Whatever

See Jim's "How-to" tips here: http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=6514;

I've done it on the underwing landing light of the Hornet, under the starboard wing, as I lost the transparent piece that was supposed to go there. It looks pretty good. The wing tip lights are a more difficult shape, but I hope that it will look okay.

The Hornet has had a couple of coats of matt varnish and now looks more uniform in lustre!

I've also put the cling film over the navigation lights. I found that using two strips to cover the corner worked well.

cheers

The canopy has now been trimmed to final size and separated into two parts. it hadn't turned out quite quite as clear as I wanted so will dip them both this morning before fitting later today.

The canopy has been fitted and when the glue is dry this evening the frames will be painted starting with dark grey for the cockpit interior and then light grey to match the outside colour scheme.

David,

That looks very nice. You don't fancy smash moulding any more canopies, do you? If I manage to get a Hornet off e-bay, I may be in need of one.

Andrew,

Don't think I haven't been following your build as well, coz I have. It's looking very good. Also, I hope the young man settles down to a better sleeping pattern soon.

regards,

Martin

Martin, it wasn't smash moulded I used a mattel Vac-U-Form and if you want a canopy, just PM your address when you get the kit.

Finished at last! To conclude my build I will say that I found that the biggest job was the wing in that I had to fill in an enormous hole in each side when correcting the aerofoil but this will be easier next time as I will fill the wing with car filler on assembly, the nose was wrongly shaped as was the canopy and once they both were altered the model was transformed. despite its age this builds well and scrubs up very well with a little TLC. I've really enjoyed building this one and will look forward to doing another as a Sea Hornet.

Nicely done. It's an elegant yet purposeful looking aeroplane.

That does look smart - lovely work on a lovely looking aircraft.

Makes me want to try a Frog kit.

Really nice David. And great ideas for a Blitz in August.
