thank you everyone, the real credit must go to Frog for designing a kit so far ahead of its day as many of the Frog kits were. There are a number I still want to build again, Sea Vixen, Sea Venom, Beaufort, Whitley, Vengeance, Maryland, Proctor, Folgore, Fiat G.55, Bristol 138, to name but some.

David.

Very nice work David. :)

Meanwhile, my build trundles slowly on. A coat of semi-gloss varnish on the topsides. I mixed equal proportions of VA Satin and Gloss varnishes, so we shall see how it turns out!

Image

I've lost my Olfa circle cutter, so I can't cut out a nice arc of decal to put the white stripes on the spinners. My last attempt was not very successful

If the varnish coats look nice, I will probably leave it for now and put the stripes on at a later date, when the cutter turns up again.

cheers

Andrew

The smooth lines of the Hornet really do suit the simple grey colours. I suspect they would look good in silver as well.

Keep up the great work Andrew its looking good

You're getting there Andrew, you will be finished soon and the model looks very good, as Splash has said the clean lines of the Hornet suit a simple scheme such as this.

David.

Yes, the light grey really looks good on the Hornet. You have to admire the de Havilland design team, it's a beautiful combination of elegance and functionality.
If I can get a nice surface finish on this, I'll be very pleased with it. It didn't look quite right in the original matt.

Cheers

Looks great Andrew, most of us here are keen on the Hornet's handsome lines - in those colours it looks like a well cut grey suit

The varnish looks okay - more satin than gloss at any rate! The canopy was unmasked.

One of the spinners needs a touch of blue on it.

Image

I need to run around some of the framing with the sharp toothpick to increase definition. I did put some Pledge on the landing and navigation lights, to get the clingfilm looking nice and shiny again.

Image

Then a bit of pastel dust trailing from the exhausts, and it'll be done (until I find the circle cutter!).

cheers

Thanks Mark

It's a great kit. Let's hope that eventually Airfix decide to retool it. Although they do have a lot of other twin engined British aircraft to do first!

Beaufighter, Mosquito, Blenheim, Beaufort, Whitley, Anson, Hampden, Whirlwind, Wellington...

It's okay I've woken up now!

Cheers

Andrew

Nice work Andrew. Also the pics give a good illustration of the size difference between a twin engined fighter like the Hornet, the Hawk from the same era and the Sopwith from the previous war.

That looks brilliant Andrew, another winner for Frog kits.

The paint touch ups and pastel weathering are done, so this one is finished.

I want to try and get some nicer pictures than these.

Well, that's a great kit, a thoroughly enjoyable shared build with David, and now I'm looking forward to tackling that Frog Sea Venom (although I'm not sure when!).

cheers
