FROG Barracuda - Martin R, Splash and Lancfan
Re: FROG Barracuda - Martin R, Splash and Lancfan
Great work, Alan. That's going to look fantastic when finished.
Unfortunately, I've just got back from London, so I'm taking tonight off, too.
regards,
Martin

Martin I hope you had a good trip.
I'm pleased with the way the wings and flaps have turned out.
One wing/flap needs a bit adding as I must have cut it slightly short, I've also started work on the air intake. At some stage I will have start on the cockpit but I might hang fire until I see what the PE set looks like.

Very impressive - those Barracuda wings are pretty hefty aren't they?

It was a bit of a dog to look at, a classic case of function over form.AndrewR wrote:Very impressive - those Barracuda wings are pretty hefty aren't they?

Re: FROG Barracuda - Martin R, Splash and Lancfan
So, after a week of inactivity (modelling-wise, at least!) I got back to the kitchen table tonight.
I have rescribed the wings top and bottom, filled the gaps in the tailplane assembly (coz I could) and got a bit further with the innards of the air intake. The rather odd shape in the pic below is meant to represent the splitter and the various gubbins inside the intake (oil cooler, radiator matrices and such-like).
As you may be able to tell, it looks a bit big to fit. It may well be. Only time will tell.
The two round shapes (meant to be radiator matrices, I think) are currently positioned back to front but give an idea of overall width. They are actually the ring tails from a pair of Airfix Lancaster 250lb bombs. In case these are too wide to fit the intake, I have some slightly smaller cross-sections of plastic tube also 'in play'. I have just filled the front of the upper splitter plate. When dry, this will need to be sanded down to give a more streamlined cross section when viewed from the front, and the length of the upper splitter plate reduced.
More pics when I've done anything worthwhile.
regards,
Martin

Very ingenious Martin. A nice way to put that complicated intake together, for sure.
Cheers

I'll of course keep you informed if it works! I'm looking forward to getting started on the interior. That could take some time!

There looks to be much fine fettling going on here lads. Dam fine work on those wings splash!

Re: FROG Barracuda - Martin R, Splash and Lancfan
James,
Thanks. I can't compete with Alan's wing-folding, of course!
This weekend has just seen progress at a snail's pace. My first attempt at inlet detail was fine in principle, but in practise was much too big. The Mk. 2 version does fit and has been tacked in place with superglue.
Here it is, without and with the prop:
The oil coolers sit perhaps a bit too far forward and a bit high; I'll tweak the position tomorrow. It's a long way from accurate, but it should 'give the impression' when viewed from the obligatory couple of feet. I still need a back plate to prevent that see-through look.
If I can get that lot out of the way then, I may manage to get a bit more done on the fuselage (cutting a hole in the fuse bottom for the torpedo attachment bay (?)) and then onto the interior.
regards,
Martin

My progress will slow down a bit whilst I wait for the others to show me how to sort out the cockpit.
My original intention was just to build the cockpit OOB but after dipping the canopy in clear it has dried remarkably clear and will need work
Having folded the wings filling the cockpit with a pilot observer and TAG is no longer an option
Martin nice work on the intake.

Re: FROG Barracuda - Martin R, Splash and Lancfan
Take your time, David. Life pressures mean I'm on a go-slow too!
I have managed to back the intake gubbins with some plastic sheet and given it a coat of anthracite to de-emphasise it. I'll paint the radiator matrices gunmetal and the splitter sky when I get the chance.
I have also kleared the cockpit windows, added the pilot's cockpit floor and a rear bulkhead from plastic sheet. Some more bulkheads, an IP and control column, and wall decoration will be added, together with a decking section covering the wing carry-through structure starting from behind the pilot's seat and including a cut-out for the observer's position. I may have to scratch some seats, but I don't think I'll go to town on the interior, settling for my usual 'representative' look.
Photos when I have anything worthwhile to show.
regards,
Martin

So that's what you'd call not going to town is it?
