I got another couple of coats of DSG on; it actually needs at least another for complete coverage, but I'm going for a 'beaten up' finish, so I will now start the EDSG shadow-shading as is.

I love being off work!

Martin

And here's where I got to after snatching another half-hour of painting:

Since the photos were taken, I've neatened up the DSG further with another thin coat; I now need to 'distress' the EDSG a bit.

Martin

Hi Martin, been busy juggling GBs around, I'm playing with the modified wheels and the propeller just now so don't have a lot to show but I should have more pictures soon. your model is coming along really well, it will look great when done.

I've resumed work on the lifeboat by sealing the balsawood hull in clear dope.
Image
I finally decided on the best way to make the correct wheels by cutting back one of the wheels I found to make a pattern hub, by pressing the inner face of the Frog wheel into plasticene, pegging the new hub in place with a cocktail stick and pouring resin into the impression to form a new wheel half I was able to make a new pattern wheel half from which to make a new mould to form new wheel halves out of DAS clay, these are now drying and they can be sanded down and joined together tomorrow.
The picture below shows the patterns used to form the new wheel moulds next to the lifeboat hull with its first coat of primer.

Splash,

Xtracrylix EDSG / DSG / Sky slightly thinned with water and applied with a flat brush.

Thanks, Paul.

She's up on her wheels! Well, up on some Academy Typhoon wheels anyway. I have melted some sizable 'flats' on them to get approximately the right sit, as the wheels are 2-3 mils larger in diameter than the kit's wheels. I like the hub detail, though.

Tonight - tidy up some more paintwork and start decalling. Oh, and I have to fill some gaps in the spinner assembly as well.

The wheels have been cast from resin, moulded in halves from plasticene moulds made by pressing the patterns into the plasticene for each half part. They were then sanded down to the correct width and cyano'd together. They are now being painted ready to be fitted. As this has been going on detail parts have been fitted to the airframe.
Image

With the undercarriage and propeller now in place the airframe looks more like a Barracuda, it just needs aerials, radar, the lifeboat and some final touching in to finish.

David,

Nice finish! I like the open observer's window.

Are the main leg gear doors on the right way round?

I got the decals on last night.

No comments, please, on the inaccurate spinner colour. A two tone red / white spinner can be added when I feel up to it! I now need to do some detail painting round the landing gear, add canopy framing, sort out the undercarriage doors and add the detail parts - but it's getting there!

Well spotted Martin, I did not see that one- according to the instructions and the sprue numbers yes, from photographs it seems not and the outer doors will need swapping over as well, cheers.

Thanks to martin for spotting the error here is the underside with the undercarriage removed and the outer doors swapped over, the mainleg doors have been cut away from the legs and swapped over, when the glue is dry the main undercarriage will be replaced.
Image lost.
