Revell MicroWings - Ian, Martin R and Coptermec
Revell MicroWings - Ian, Martin R and Coptermec
A short time ago Martin posted about the little 1:44 Revell kits and, having built one and mostly completed a second, I thought I'd join him. The kits are only £2 a pop at Hobbycraft and I picked up the two I did't have, the Spitfire and the Typhoon.
The kits are very simple with only a handful of parts.
Detail is minimal.....
To non-existent.
Same with the Typhoon.
Instructions are printed with the build on one side and the painting guide on the other.
Here (just like in Blue Peter) are some I made earlier!
Hurricane
And Tempest.
I was going to make a start after taking the pics but temperature has soared to over 40C in the conservatory, so I'll wait till later when it's cooled down a bit.....

I'll get some pics posted later, after work. Though , as we can see, there isn't much to them.

Ian, thanks for setting up the thread; Tony, welcome aboard!
I decided to start with the Hawker Tempest. Box art: nice!
Sprues: not so nice. Lots of flash.
Still, let's not judge the kit by the plastic. Let's get cracking. After removal of the fuse halves and considerable clean up, I added some armour plating behind the pilot with styrene sheet, and I had a go at doing a seat as well. That will be the limit of the detailing in the cockpit.
I also backed the holes for the rocket mountings with small squares of thin sheet in preparation for filling them, and joined the wings. Here's where we are tonight.
Tomorrow, I want to paint the interior (shouldn't take too long!) and join the fuse halves, then add the wings and fill. I'm going to leave the prop off till last as I want to do something about making the spinner less blunt. I don't think filler will hack it, so I may have to look for something from the spares box.
I want to get this together and do some painting. Should be fun in this scale!
regards,
Martin

Scratch-built interior in 1:144? Impressive, Martin! I look forward to seeing your gunsight!!!
When it comes to the prop, if you take a look at my Tempest (above) you can see the spinner profile is kind of semi-circular. You could probably get away with filing it into a more pointed shape. I think that would make it look 'right' without making it any longer. I'm going to try that on my Typhoon (as it has the same problem).

I've just realised something. I though the Tiffie and Tempest were basically the same mold but with different tails and wings. Comparing my sprue to yours, Martin, they're totally different.

I don't mind continuing if you don't.

Of course we will continue, Martin! We're English!
My post was just an observation.

Spent a little while in the conservatory before the heat kicked in. Thank goodness for last nights storms!
All I've done is glue the main assemblies.
And then sanded over to find the gaps - there are a few....
The other wing and the underside seam are the same. Filling time!

The Hunt For Red October. Not a bad film but not a patch on the book.
