Airfix Harriers - jssel, AndrewR, fredk, Maverick321, Sir T
Re: Airfix Harriers - jssel, AndrewR, fredk, Maverick321, Si
Did you say 'gem'? I prefer 'dog' myself. Which is why I'm impressed with what you've done with it.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

Thanks for your appreciation fellas, I thaught the kit went together really well, there were a few gaps that needed filling but other than that I really enjoyed building her.
Well I wouldnt normally finish a model this quick but the deadline was tonight so I cracked on with it.
Jssel - Nice work!, I really like the nose art on her!
AndrewR - I really like the look of the GR.5 Testbed, cant wait to see her finished!
Sir T - I wanna see your 1 Squadron GR.1!!!
How much longer will this SB last? As im thinking of buying a GR.1 and a GR.3 on payday.
Also I forgot to mention that the ejector seat that I used was out of a failed Revell Eurofighter Typhoon kit.

I think the SB will last as long as we want it too. I still have quite a lot to do on my two Harriers, so I reckon I'll be lucky to finish before Christmas!Maverick231 wrote:Thanks for your appreciation fellas, I thaught the kit went together really well, there were a few gaps that needed filling but other than that I really enjoyed building her.

Most of the decals are now on - there are a few very tiny ones which need to go on the undercarriage doors, and I will do those once the undercarriage is installed!
Having used copious quantities of Pledge to bed these decals down, I now have to hope that the Matt Varnish is up to the task of flattening things down evenly.
Eventually I'd like a sort of semigloss finish on this aircraft - it should look "clean" being a demonstrator version.
Cheers
Andrew

I don't think there is a time limit on shared builds.
Andrew, this is looking good.

Just as well ad I'm probably going to get a new kit as my 'paint stripping' exercise was a bit of a flop - so I'm back to wet and dry - pah, who needs surface detail anyway
Andrew that is looking really cool B)

GR.1 treated to a nice rub down and a very thinned coat of 106 Ocean Grey Enamal over the whole airframe - will give it another coat tomorrow...
I've also ordered Hannants GR.1 Decal sheet - going to do the wrap around scheme with a Shark mouth used in Belize.
Regards
Stuart

That GR5 looks very smart in its demonstrator livery Andrew and it makes a nice change to see a Harrier in something other than one of the usual military schemes.
Keep at it Stuart. Sanding is good for the soul I've been there many times with paint schemes going awry

Ok guys my next Harrier is going to be a special bird.
She's a Royal Navy Harrier GR.3, yes thats right a Royal Navy Harrier GR.3!
I dont know how many of you know about XZ129 but she was used by the FAA as an instructional airframe for the Engineering Training School which explains the ETS titles on her fuselage.
She was the only Royal Navy GR.3!
Il be buying the kit on payday, I just need to find some decals!
Here is a link to a photo of her:

Oh and also Il be doing the only Harrier that doesn't really do anything for me if shes not in the right livery the Sea Harrier FRS.1.
I think for the Sea Harrier the bottle nose really makes the aircraft look 100% better.
Il be painting the Matchbox FRS.1 in the same sort of livery as this one:

That's my favourite paint job for the Sea Harrier too.Maverick231 wrote:Oh and also Il be doing the only Harrier that doesn't really do anything for me if shes not in the right livery the Sea Harrier FRS.1.

Re: Airfix Harriers - jssel, AndrewR, fredk, Maverick321, Si
The Arctic Harrier got the 1 Sqn decals on tonight, from the Xtradecal set "100 Years of 1 Sqn". There are no stencils etc, so these will come from the Airfix set, if they behave themselves
Before
A big chunk of paint has peeled off the starboard fuel tank. I will have to cunningly disguise this under a layer of whitewash
After
None of the decals is particularly large, or too prominent
All I need now are the stencils etc from the kit decal sheet.
The Blue Harrier has had a coat of Pledge all over and so is now very glossy. It's drying now. I still have to fit the undercarriage to that aircraft.
cheers
Andrew
