A continuation of the original sign-up topic in GB Chat.

The intent was to honor Neil Armstrong with Apollo 11 related.

Your Mission Control will fill in the details.

Have Fun !!!

Oh boy.. I've been looking forward to this one and so glad it got resurrected. Going to have to be the Saturn V I think...

Well, as I suggested the GB in the first place, following the death Neil Armstrong, I am well and truly in.

We don't seem to build a great deal of space models on this forum and this is a good excuse to dig out your Saturn V rockets and Lunar Modules that you bought on a whim however many years ago. There are plenty of kits in a range of scales covering the all aspects of the mission - the launch, the command module, the lunar module and even the rescue helicopter.

I'll be building the lunar module as it approaches the moons surface and am basing my diorama around the 'Kicking up some dust' line spoken by Neil Armstong as he manually piloted Eagle down.

As I volunteered to assist Ian, I am also honour bound to get building, I agree with Ian that spacecraft are rarely modelled, I think Revell were the leaders in this with their range of space capsules that so captured my imagination then. It is a pity that Airfix did not model these craft in 1/72 scale to accompany their series three LM and Sea King kits, this would have given us a coherant range of popular scale models, models of the craft that were actually manned in spaceflight and not just those tall pointed lumps of plastic that are rocket kits. As I build mainly in 1/72 and 1/76 scales I will build the Airfix Lunar Module from the 'One Small Step' set. If time permits I will follow this up with a USN Apollo recovery Airfix Sea King kit.

I'm hoping to join in here on my first group build. I do have a set of rockets put out by AMT. It has rockets from each successive space program, so I have a couple of choices from the Apollo program. Once i get to my stash away from stash, i will post pics ans start a thread

Bottle tops could be formed into the feet. Cans can be cut up and used as panels.

I'd like to do something for this but time constraints and too many other part completed projects will probably prevent me from joining in. I look forward to seeing the completed models.

Some interesting news. They've recovered some of the F-1 engines used on Apollo rockets.
