Tony's AMT 1/200 Saturn V

Post by coptermech »

I'm hoping to build the Saturn V from this kit. It is the Man In Space kit released in 2011 by AMT. If time permits, there is also a Saturn 1B in the kit which I may try along with the Saturn V. I've posted a link to the AMT site, seeing as I have to retrieve the kit from my stash in storage.

That's a nice set, Tony. I bet they'll look great once you've built them all!

I was hoping to make a start on the rockets this week, but real life has interjected. Just some remodeling to get done at home. Gonna have to find time in between to work them.

And there is also a Mercury Red stone, Mercury Atlas, and Gemini Titan in the kit along with two small LEM

There are a couple more sprues, but parts are duplicates for use on the IB and V rockets

They do, don't they Jim. Crisp and no flash. Hope it all goes together as well as it looks!

There is some minor flash on smaller parts, and not as much detail on some parts. But overall, it looks to be a fairly straightforward build with no issues

Made a start on the Saturn V tonight. Fit is pretty good over all, but is gonna need work on the seams. Got all the assemblies done, less the engine bells, which I need to paint separately and I also need to give everything a good coat of primer. The kit instructions call out for no gluing the stages together. Nice feature as you can showcase each , or as a whole. The only major issue I have with this kit is the complete lack of painting instructions. At least there's plenty of pictures out there to follow.

Here's a couple progress pics and sorry for the poor quality of the pics.....

Unfortunately, i haven't had a chance to work on it. Had to finish up some remodeling at home. Hopefully I'll get a chance this week. I'm hoping not to fail in my first group build.

Looks a manageable size in that scale, good luck with finishing the renovations.

I managed to get a coat of primer on most of the parts. Still need some work on a few seams. Sorry for no pics, but not much to see
