Welcome aboard, Jim.
That's a great chioce of kit. Is that paper template for the sticky, shiny stuff?

Re: Jim's Eagle..
That actually looks cool. I like the base a lot. What is the paper with the lettered boxes for?

Bzzzt, Mission control, the template/boxes page, is the back of the gold sheet. I'm guessing cut around the shapes and gives you the right sized bits to stick on the panels, legs etc, but I suppose.... ack! cough!, cough!, I'll have to read the instructions..... not my normal way of doing things at all...

Bzzt.... Houston, we have an anomalous situation here. Jim is threatening to read the instructions....Jagewa wrote:Bzzzt, Mission control, the template/boxes page, is the back of the gold sheet. Re: Jim's Eagle..
Reading the instructions Jim?!?!? they're not nicknamed "destructions" for nothing you know! I'll give you a clue - the sticky out leg things go on the bottom
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Jim's Eagle..
No wings either, and where do the the prop blurs go????
Bzzzt -Mission update:
After careful deciphering of these alien paper artefacts by the science officer:
we have FOILAGE!
The alien artefacts say to glue the foil on, but the sheet is self adhesive..
The science officer also discovered a couple of diminutive chaps..
who seem very keen of getting out and about. One keeps banging on about taking large steps, if he's not careful he'll fall off the table...
I've desprued all the parts, and looks there's a bit of clean up required, though quite a bit seems to be foil covered, so maybe not have to get too carried away.
Bzzt - Mission report ends...

Re: Jim's Eagle..
There's no mention of what needs to be foiled in the 1:100 kit. Is there any chance you could list what needs foiling?

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Bzzt - Roger Commander Ian,
The Revel instructions foil all the sides of the descent section, and all the leg components, around the edges of the door on the ascent module, a couple of circular patches on the door itself, and around the area of ascent rocket engine.
But looking at other builds and photos, you could foil everything on the descent section.....
There's a fantastic detailed build here: WARNING! WARNING! link to another Forum WARNING!: http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.o ... 19206.html;.
I've carried on with some lollie wrappers to foil all the descent stage, and I thought I'll see if I can paint different areas different colours/shades.
Revell instructions just have you not foil the black areas, jsut paint the plastic black, but I thought I would use a thicker foil and paint that black.
We'll see how it goes, I'm certainly enjoying the foiling at the moment.

Nice stuff Jim. I like your "NASA Beep" effects.

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Bzzzt - Thanks mission control, mission report T+a few,
Crew have been muttering and going silent when I pass, suspect they are wondering about the lollies..... must remember to watch my stash... lollie stash that is...
Unfortunately a run in with an Arcturan mega donkey has meant only a resulted in only a few modelling sessions, legs are done with the foil.
Some lolly wrappers with the reverse side out for the silver foil, and a bit of goldie foil at the bottom, some of the sticky Revell foil down the rear of the leg, with thin strips as the bindings.
Cleaned up the rest of the descent plastic parts, and have to gird my loins for the fiddly foiling of legs bracks/frame work.
