Yup, 'cos the binding work wasn't at all fiddly, was it Jim? Sheesh!Jagewa wrote:have to gird my loins for the fiddly foiling of legs bracks/frame work.

Great work Jim. All that foiling on these LM's would drive me round the twist I'm sure.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

When I built my Airfix LM way back in 1979 I overdosed on Rolos.

Funny thing it wasn't, it was really easy with the self adhesive foil in the kit. But foiling those leg brackets/frames gave me the willies..
Last couple of mission sessions and have been finally foiled
One of my day's at home looking after the four year old, and she wanted to paint some LOTR figures, so I sat down and painted as well, some Tamiya Clear orange over the foil, and then some Vallejo black, even got carried away and bunged on the stickers.
Might even have to start assembling some of it now

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Brilliant job Jagewa, especially the foiled undercarriage units- I chickened out on this and only foiled the main legs, using paint for the rest of the assemblies. The clear orange is also a good idea.

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Thanks David, I think it's being 1/48th made me do it, I thought it would be easier as all foil.
Super glued the legs on last night, and it sits even no wobble, though I havn't checked level....

Re: Jim's Eagle..
.... completed descent stage....
Stuck on the brackets/stays/actuators?? that go from the body to the leg frames, painted them with a Vallejo Game Color gold, which by a huge flute is a really close match for the Clear orange covered foil, then a bit of black. Moved on to the ladder, shortened it by one rung, painted Vallejo Model Air Alu, finished the porch, Vallejo Model Color Dark flesh, and finished the blast deflectors(?).
After seeing David's build I realised I had foiled the lower part with the wrong colour, so painted the foil Aluminium...
So Mission control, we are go for Ascent stage... Bzzt

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Looking really good.
Yes, they are indeed blast deflectors - designed to stop the blast from the downward firing Remote Control Thrusters (RCS) of the Ascent Stage impinging on the exterior of the Descent Stage.

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Thanks Eric, do you know if the descent had open sides, i.e the foil covered voids? I've always wondered and havn't seen a picture of a "bare" un-foiled descent stage.
Cheers
Jim

Re: Jim's Eagle..
As far as I know all the sides were properly covered by panels, although the panels, like the rest of the LM, were made of extremely thin gauge aluminium.

That looks super Captain Jim, lovely foiling work. I had to laugh at the diddy men ascent stage in the photo
