Re: Jim's Eagle..
Thanks Eric, and Shawn.. yes, well the crew were playing with a trans dimensional pizza transference device, and a box of beer last night, and the Ascent stage got in the way, we do seem to be missing a couple of crew... damn casual Fridays.
Some larger parts were found..
and as punishment for the previous pizza beer situation, the crew have been shovelling filler, next punishment will be sanding...
Bzzt..

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Bzzt.. Status update.. "I'll know it's there work" going on..
As Revell/Monogram supplied the ascent rocket nozzles is molded on to each ascent stage half. You are supposed to foil arouns it and in the deep recess.
I didn't like the look of it, and from some photos, it looks like the foil might have bridged the recess, so I added a plasticard false floor, and shortened the nozzle so it can be cemented on after the foiling.
The view ports window plastic is supplied as yellow, I don't know if that's the colour, maybe it was gold tinted?? Anyhow not the colour I associate with it, a more dark bluey grey..
So the ports were blanked off, and I've transferred the size and shape to tape, so I can make some decal view ports. I'll also make a decal viewport for the topside of the crew cabin. as there is nothing molded in the location.
Referring to this correction set http://mek.kosmo.cz/newware/nw068.htm, there are quite a few things you could do to correct the Revell/Monogram LEM...
Bzzt... End mission report

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Thanks David.
Had the Airbrush out last night, and blew on a coat of Tamiya Sky XF-21, as it looked close to the colour in the photos I'm using, though it feels soooo wrong to be in anything but silver
Next mask for the black areas..
Cheers
Jim

Re: Jim's Eagle..
The LM was aluminium bodied and unpainted - apart from the heat insulated areas which were painted black.
Re: Jim's Eagle..
Whilst it may have been unpainted aluminium, I like it in sky, Jim.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

You're simulating the photographic light effects of Haselblad cameras and 1960's 6x6 film stock in a digital environment, modelistic licence.

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Is that right? it's lighting and film effects, haha, I'll be blowed...
Though I was chasing links the other day, and saw mentioned, that it was the anodizing process they used, and the colour changed on the next LEM's, the Apollo 11 LEM being the only one that was that odd colour... ah well too far gone now to be arsed fixing..
Masked the edges for the black, and then lost the will to model, so brushed the black and silver bits. I've got to touch up the silver, as I brushed some Klear over it, and it has shown up all the brush strokes. I was a bit wobbley of osme of the joint lines, but I'll live with it.
Got the little bits to finish and do make some decals for the windows, or if I decide I can't be bothered might paint them..
Cheers
Jim

Re: Jim's Eagle..
It looks good to me Jim. I would consider painting the windows gloss black with perhaps a thin overpaint of clear blue. But then again, I am a bit of a bodger
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Given that you can't see anything inside and a painted effect is just as good on this subject I agree with Ian and Shaun.

Re: Jim's Eagle..
Right I'm calling the LM done..
I'm not happy with the supplied base, those moulded on shadows just kill me.. I want to do a base or do soemthing to get rid of the shadows but not sure what So I don't feel right right calling it all finished....
Cheers
Jim
