mmD's Airfix 1/144 Saturn V
I've always wanted to build this kit.. I've had a thing for the mighty Saturn V since I was a nipper (Dr Freud will see you now!)
The biggest damn thing to ever fly.. and a fairly hefty model too.
This will be fun.

I'd suggest a bulk buy of gloss white paint for that one Mike
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: mmD's Airfix 1/144 Saturn V
Heh.. I actually asked about the right paint for this ages ago, being a non-airbrusher. Humbrol don't make the recommended Satin White in a rattlecan (and I'm sure as heck not brush-painting it). Apparently Halfords do a very reasonable satin white spray, so yes, I'll be laying in a few cans of that. And building a new spray booth. A BIG one.ShaunW wrote:I'd suggest a bulk buy of gloss white paint for that one Mike

Apparently those Halfords rattle cans are pretty good. Certainly their Appliance White is a favourite amongst the airliner fraternity and I've seen it used on one or two models on here, not just airliners, with great results.

Appliance white is very white but the paint is thin and you must apply it in several light coats or else it has a tendency to run very easily.

Good tip, James.
You wouldn't want to have to smooth down a Saturn V, would you?

I used Halford's Appliance White on my Saturn IB and Shuttle builds - pictures just posted on the previous Apollo related builds thread.

No, I would not like to smooth one of those buggers down.. so thanks for the tip. I'll be starting this build a little later in the month.. so I'll go for a placeholder till then...

Looking forward to watching this. I suggest getting in touch with Falcon on here as he has the accurate plans for the painting, or look at his build on here http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5740;
(Look half way down for the final pics of the model with revised paintwork)
Hope this helps.

Have you made a start yet, Mike? If you haven't you're going to be pushed for time on this.
