Kitmaster OO Gauge Beyer-Garratt 2-6-0-0-6-2
As bought from eBay:
After repainting and re-decalling:
With weathering (relatively restrained compared to the real things, I reckon...)
bestest,

Very nice. The largest loco ever run on British rails I believe.

That looks great Matt, the weathering looks spot on to me, nicely restrained yet enough to make it look used.

Not seen one of these before. What's behind the cab?

The cone shape behind the cab is is a "self trimming rotating coal bunker" that ensures the coal falls to the front of the tender for easy access. The drum is rotated by a small 2 cylinder steam engine.
For a little further information.
33 where built, 3 in 1927 and a further order was placed in 1930. Train heating was not fitted as they where intended to be purely heavy freight engines. In service weight was 155.5 tons with a boiler diameter of 6ft 3in. 4 cylinders of18.5x 26 inches drove wheels of 5ft 3 in. Equipment for waster replenishment on the run was fitted on the front unit, and could be used in either direction. Information taken from "Modern Locomotive Classes" published in 1945.
I hope this is of interest.

A bit more brass and it would look positively steam punk.

Nicely done Matt

That's fabulous Matthew & thanks for the info General. I'm not really into rail models per se but I am into Garratts. I saw a heap of them on the trip thru southern africa years ago, I've clambered all over them & they are amazing bits of technology. I wasn't aware that this kit even existed, dammit, now I'm just going to HAVE to try & find one.

It would be interesting to put it side by side next to the American "Big Boy". Revell do one in HO scale, unfortunatly at 1/87 scale it would make it look smaller than it was, if put next to the Kitmaster OO 1/76 scale Garratt
I see HobbyCraft http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk have the Big Boy on sale for £19.99

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

HO is 1/87th and the kit may have been scaled to that, That's 00/HO for you. 1/76th chassis and HO wheels on 16.5mm centres.
So many models, so little time.

I've been ripped off then - I paid £120.00 for mine - it is a Rivarrossi one though and does move of it own accord if you apply 12v dc in the right placessplash wrote:I see HobbyCraft http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk have the Big Boy on sale for £19.99
Excellent work Matt - beautiful job on re-painting and decalling. Another one for the "shelf" at Telford. I think anyone standing behind the shelf will need to wear shades to avoid flash-blindness from all the photos that will be being taken over the weekend
