Pinewood Derby car

Post by jssel »

Spent a lovely New Years Eve day with grandson building his Pinewood Derby (Cub Scouts) race car. Hope he wins.

The neat thing John is he actually had hands on. We had dialog. Way cool. Seems dads do the work on these and the kids watch.

Think soap-box racing, but in miniature.
An ancient custom event in US Scouts [and others]

Nice paint finish on that too.
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Hi Celt. Each Scout starts with a pre-cut block of pine, four nails for axles and plastic wheels. Everything is imagination. Something I lack especially when surprised last minute. And while it performed well, it did not place.

Very often the parent builds these so felt good watching grandsons hands on approach. Great fun.
Fred's anology fits to a tee.

Thanks fredk and jssel,it is interesting what you learn on this site and you can never have to much knowledge.Growing up in the South Wales Valleys we had nothing like this, we made carts out of old prams and pushed ourselves down the mountain.
