Airfix McLaren P-1

Post by jssel »

Along with the Ford GT posted below I also picked up an Airfix Lego car.

Again, the snap tite aspect works for me. Overall the kit assembles really well. With a little clamping the seams are presentable. The headlights are stickers that are added which is different for me but effective. Fun build and think that it would promote kids into the hobby. The only negative was the cost at $24.95 USD. But my LMS cut me a big discount to see it built.

The car was finished in Testors Boyd Orange Pearl.

I think it would appeal to youngsters very much, and certainly get a few into more advanced builds. It certainly looks nice (but I think I prefer the GT40!)
Best wishes

Another great job and I agree, this type of kit is a great introduction to modellling for youngsters or adults who are trying the hobby though the price of the kit Stateside is a little steep. I don't know how much the real thing is but it being a McLaren I wouldn't be surprised at a sticker price on the high side of £500,000.

Thanks Shaun. A car builder and enthusiast in my club tells me that it could go as high as $1.2m USD over here.

They look good these new Airfix Lego cars, a bit between Lego and a detailed kit. It's a shame about the price.

Did you paint before or after assembly?
