Evening Star

Post by chrism »

This is the old Airfix Evening Star which was reissued by Dapol. I bought it recently from Dapol and spent ages digging the parts out of the flash.... and strugged valiantly with the Dapol instructions which were printed so small... but I found another set on a forum that were the old ones Airfix produced which were very helpful.

It has been built for the Locate and Cement SIG group theme for Telford this year. The theme is to commemorate first, last, highest, fastest and as such models are in appropriate schemes.

Where does this train fit into that? Evening Star was the last engine built by BR, it was built at Swindon, which is also the engine works where the first ever engine to roll out of the shed many many years earlier was also called Evening Star.

Looks a lovely build and I think the diorama is excellent.

I like the offset track, feels like you've captured it passing through.

Nice work Chris.

Like James says, the off-set track works really well.

Agree. The off set track really sets it off…. The figures are a nice addition also.

Thanks for the comments. The figures were from a railway type workmen set; I got them a while back and had used some of them in other settings as with an odd tweak they can be modified to fit any odd workman / civvy type situation, building work / harbour etc. .

That's really great work; I have the Dapol kit in the stash and it looks like a lot of work just to find the parts amongst the flash!
Your setting for the finished build compliments it brilliantly
Best wishes
