Pocher 1933 Bugatti T50 1/8th

Post by MAD STEVE »

Afternoon Chaps

Reading the threads on UAMF the last couple of days has really inspired me...
The chaps on here really have been an inspiration.

I'm the kind of chap that loves a challenge, so I thought why don't I pick up my Pocher build again and share it with you lot

Okay quick whiz whiz about Pocher for the uninitiated... Full detail kits in 1/8th scale that build up very close to how real cars used to be built. You can expect engine internals (that work, as in rotating), covering seats in faux leather, spoking wheels, Building a car from the ground up, chassis, engine, gearbox, body you name it.

They are not easy kits to build, they are not simple kits, and they certainly are not the kind of kits to be knocked together in a few weekends... But man oh man, they are an epic journey in modelling.
There are DVD's available with new instructions on how to build them, because Pochers instructions suck to the Nth degree, but i decided i would be a man and build it as the eyetalian modelling gods intended... (riiiiiiiiiiight  )

Okay, onwards.
I started the Bugatti about 18 months ago, and I do a little tinkering with it every now and again, (more again than now)
So here's where we are today.
Image

The Chassis and Engine are complete, and todays exercise to to attach the rear suspension to the chassis.
Image
The odd looking spring things are attached to the chassis and rear axle...
Image
And finally the completed rear suspension and the rear spare wheel holders in place, now for some touch ups...
Not bad for four and a half hours work :-D

If you were wondering about the size of this, this may help...
Image

And a couple of shots of the engine and dashboard assembly

I shall definately now be putting in a concerted effort to get this monster finished...

Thanks for looking

Excellent! Boy, is that thing big!!

Never having seen one before, are these kits a mixture of media? It looks like there are metal parts, and screws as well as styrene etc....
Best wishes

Hiya Iggie
Yeah forgot to mention that, what it says on the box...
The model has 1635 parts - 375 high impact plastic, 990 brass, 57 stainless steel and the other 213 of various materials such as leather, iron, copper, rubber etc.
There is actually very little that is glued together

Oh man, that is quite something Steve. I've been told recently that Pocher kits don't come cheap and, indeed, some can be eye watering in the price department but what a kit this is, it really does look like a full-size car in miniature!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

A true multi-media kit then

Does it come with a scale shop steward to safeguard the worker's rights? :-D
Best wishes

Yeah Shaun, the older Pochers can be eye watering in Price, especially the Bugatti's as they are quite hard to find...
The new Pochers, I believe are not quite as complex as the old ones, mostly in plastic but man oh man Id love the Huracan and the big Ducati :)

And no Iggie, it doesnt come with a Shop Steward, Its Bugatti, not British Leyland, they had Standards (like they actually built cars :-D )
Evvvvvverybody out!

I built one, back in the 70's, for my father-in-law, but cannot remember which one it was.
I remember struggling with body/interior fit issues, but it was an experience.

Afternoon Chaps....
Little bit more of an update how i'm spending my time off :)

Put the wheels together today. Usually this entails gluing two pieces together and sitting back contemplating just how clever you are...
But no, our ancient italian friends decided things like that are for wusses...
Each wheel comprises 10 pieces and about a dozen screws and some metal fittings.
To give you a sense of scale...
Image

and finally, after 18 months, its on its wheels
Image

And so the final assembly of the chassis stage is the exhaust.
Quite a large affiar, again made up of about a dozen parts. The main pipes are in aluminium, the rest in plastic. I assembled the lot in two sections and sprayed in all Gloss Aluminium.
Image

The chassis, engine assembly is now basically finished. The bit i have been dreading the most ins next, building the seats...
So i'm off to bone up on how to cover seats and not blast it up completely... :)

Thanks for looking

Am watching this with interest. I have a part started poacher Rolls Royce I aquired some years back. It came om a big plastic tub and all the bits ratling loose and a couple broken. Dunno if I wil ever attempt to build it.

All the best.

I don't think Steve has posted in years and it's a shame we didn't see the end of this.
