Matchbox Porsche 917-10, 1/32, for SMW ***FINISHED***
Although the Martini livery in the box is iconic, the most successful 917-10s were the L+M sponsored cars raced by George Follmer and Mark Donohue. I've admired Donohue since I read his excellent "The Unfair Advantage", so this is by way of a tribute to a genuinely nice guy who was the best racecar development driver in the business and a winning racer in his own right.
...and I couldn't resist trying this out, inspired by the George Kimble Cutaways book on my motor books shelf...
Now, on with an Aston and some Jags...
best,
M.

These kits really put some 1/24 scale kits in the shade. It looks brilliant, of course. Where did you get the decals from and did applied them to the louvres drive you insane.

Thanks, General and James... been doing a bit of refinement on the cutaway...
Decals are from an eBay seller. I think they are designed for a vac-formed slot car body, mostly because there aren't enough of them to do a _proper_ scale kit. There should be stripes on the body under the wings, on the underside of (both of) the wings, big and small, and right down the back. They're also not wide enough, since they should span from just outboard of the driver names to not far inboard of the edges, with the first NACA intake completely in the red, and the inboard black stripe hitting the rear meshed "bicycle saddle" intake... Perfectionists will want three of the $7 sheets, to extend the length as needed and provide a widening red fillet down the middle. Or you could print copies...
Louvres are a combination of sharp scalpel blade, hot compress, Micro Set/Sol and a black pen. Takes more time to write than do, honest...

M.
