Smer 1/32 Rolls Royce Silver Ghost

Post by kpnuts »

Hi all i bought this kit from our LMS, not a great kit.
Loads of flash and the fit is awful, is this what Smer kits are normally like.

I think so :frown: but they are cheap and do some good subjects.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

It depends. Smer re-issue a lot of other makers old kits. Many of their 1/72 aeroplanes are ex-Heller and are very clean. Their 1/48 (ish) aeroplanes are old Aurora (afair) so are basic and bit not right in shapes
This car is an old Gowland & Gowland kit from the early 1950s, It was also issued in boxings by Dapol and Revell

On these kits I cut 10 thou or even 5 thou plastic card in small sheets and glue it over that joint down the middle
I did that on this 1908 Sears

After:

those two areas weren't done as the seats go there to cover the joint
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Well I've filled and sprayed the body, this in now going to be a street rod, I sprayed the mud guards and the paint reacted weirdly (went all lumpy with holes in it) tried removing the paint with clean spirit (it's an ecologically friendly brush cleaner you wash out with water) and the mud guards melted, I mean to the point it looks like a blob of melted plastic. I've used this stuff before with no trouble.

i have never built a smer kit before it looks a very basic kit with a lot of flash and i can see the fit of the parts is not good you have a lot of filling and sanding in front of you, you have made a good start looking forward to seeing more

That Rolls looks like an old Gowland kit. I know that Airfix had a Rolls kit way back when as a bagged kit in Woolworths (anyone remember them from years ago when they were a good old fashioned general store?), but I don't think it was their kit.
Smer's Alfa Romeo and Talbot Lago Racing cars were from the old Merit range, and were not too bad albeit a bit basic, but could be worked on to improve.
