1/32 Escort

Post by theconfidencestoat »

Normally build aircraft, and have never built a car kit. This kit resembles my first car, a 75 mark 1 in these exact colours.

The body shell was quite badly warped in this kit, and I never got it straightened properly, hence, all the wheels don't touch the ground simultaneously.

Anyway, I'm not unhappy with it.

Thanks for looking

Good result! Is the roof representative of primer on the real car?? My early cars certainly had their share of panels in primer!

You seemed to have sorted the warpage out pretty well, as the bonnet fits well. Getting all wheels on the ground at once with Airfix 1/32 cars is always a challenge!

This particular kit tends to suffer with warped bodyshells and ill-fitting bonnets, as I found when I made one a couple of years ago. Also, the windscreen gap at the lower edge is another problem.

Detail is good, though: the engine/gearbox and dashboard/steering wheel are particularly satisfying to build.

Thanks Zane

No the roof was just white. That's how it came. It was a typical 'little old lady drove it to church on Sundays' car. Absolutely brilliant. Never let me down. Wish I still had it.

I have another kit somewhere and there's no warpage.

It's great to see cars built how they were rather than some showroom overly polished figment of someone's imagination.

Nice replica! And if you want to solve the problem of uneven wheels, just place the car on slightly uneven(ed) gravel road base…

Nice work. It must be good to be able to build a model of a car you actually owned, something I won't be able to do unless I can get my hands on on Airfix Maxi.
