James' Customized Matchbox Diecasts

Post by JamesPerrin »

The subject of Porsche 928 kits came up and I mentioned I had Mad Max'ed my Matchbox Diecast. So I thought I'd share this a couple of others with you. I did these when about 17 after I'd stopped (mostly) playing with them but still had some of my favourites hanging around. Customizing using meant breaking the rivets that held the plastic or metal base plate on, then adding stuff from the spare box or just a new paint job. I was actually influence by the artwork/articles for Games Workshop's Highway Warrior game, which itself ripped of Mad Max. The cars are ~1/72 scale and the tuck ~1/90 IIRC (they often had the scale marked on the underside)

This is my Porsche 928 now with driver. He's lot his steering wheel and a hub cap. These post apocalyptic chaps are not the best of drivers

Here's what Postman Pat would drive if the world goes to hell in a handbag 'PAT 2' - the post will always get through! Originally a Peterbuilt Cement Mixer.

This last one is just a custom paint job. Just called the "Banjo Bouncer" by Matchbox I recently saw exactly the same GMC model at a car wash in Huddersfield! This was my favourite toy car ever! but was chipped and needed a new lick of paint. You may be able to tell I was going through adolescence when I did this one

Cool!

Don't worry about the nose art - I painted Shoo, Shoo Baby on my brother's Morris 1800 when he was 18...
