Re: Dirk's AMT 73 Mustang Mad Max Pre-Apocalyptic Intercepto
Being on this side of the world I have to admit I never knew of cars like the Holden (Chevy) and the Falcon (Ford) that were made for other countries other then the states.

Re: Dirk's AMT 73 Mustang Mad Max Pre-Apocalyptic Intercepto
Last night I started work on the 351 Cleveland power-plant for our Interceptor.
Removed the factory distributor blob to make room for a Ron and Pat Parks replacement unit.
I thought about filling this hole in the block meant for the axel but decided that it wasn't worth the effort. I may regret this later but what the heck...
The replacement Distributor pack. I'll install this after the paint on the motor is fully dried.
Time to focus some attention to the engine compartment. I have to admit I was so disappointed and disgruntled with the kit that I hacked off the parts without having a solid plan in place. I spent almost all day yesterday going over options and trying to formulate a fix. I'm not willing to buy a $20+ kit and harvest the firewalls for this build. I'm not lucky enough to have found one of those buys where you get a $20+ kit for some pocket change so that you don't feel bad taking the parts and making the kit unusable other then for other parts projects. Then a light went on. Meir inches from my work area was the answer.
I had received this convertible shell as a throw in when I purchased a Mustang McLaren. It was cut up when I got it and I used it to teach myself how to make the McLaren fenders for a future build. The car was destined for the trash until now.
now I'm not delusional enough to think that this is a perfect replacement for the 73's engine compartment but it is miles ahead what I can scratch and seeing that this is not a factory or show class build I figure what the heck.
The downer
The harvested parts
After some trimming I dry fit the walls in place. I will still need to add some Evergreen to the back of the compartment to reach the firewall.
Playing with the engine. Not sure if I'm going to use the riser pictured. U wanted a blower but none of the ones I have fit the motor correctly.
Thanks for looking. Till next time.

Re: Dirk's AMT 73 Mustang Mad Max Pre-Apocalyptic Intercepto
Work continued on the 73 this week. My son had a sleep over one night this weekend and I had a bunch of computer work to address so I couldn't get as much done as I had hopped. Something is better then nothing I guess. :armata_PDT_03:
I turned my attention to the interior and the seats. As I had commented on earlier there is almost nothing Mustang in this kit and the interior is no different. When installing the seats I came across another issue. The seats sat in a reclined position. It reminded me of season one of Star Trek the next Generation and the navigation seats on the bridge. There is no way anyone could be expected to sit and drive this car in that reclined position. In the photo below the driver seat is fixed and the one i'm holding is the kits idea of good.
To fix this I just took some Evergreen stock and glued it to the rear of the seat, painted it black and glued it in place.
Both seats fixed. Much better if you ask me
Next I returned to the Evergreen stock and found another useful piece. This I used to fill the back of the guages I drilled out last week.

Hehe those seats are different. Did/do Mustangs have lap belts? Actually do you Americans need any belts at all?

Yes they had lapbelts but by this year they were retractable and if memory serves me (I never had a later year Mustang. Mine were all 64 to 66 with lots of work done on the 67-68's) they had the 3 point setup.

Re: Dirk's AMT 73 Mustang Mad Max Pre-Apocalyptic Intercepto
More interior work done. I didn't go crazy by installing carpet or detailing the non-existent door skins and such as the sleek contour of the roof-line won't allow you to see anything anyway.
The roll bar was installed
Sitting here like this everything looks out of proportion but when I placed the interior into the body it actually look ok.
Rear suspension installed minus the shocks and other important things such as the front steering linkage.
The modified 351 Cleveland engine put in place

Re: Dirk's AMT 73 Mustang Mad Max Pre-Apocalyptic Intercepto
Now it time for the fun part. Time to add some color... Yellow was the first color to be added
After the yellow dried a mask was applied and the next color was applied. Model Masters Signal Red.
After that dried I applied another mask and sprayed Testors Dark Blue
Tomorrow we'll have the revel
Thanks for taking the time to look at my work.

OOOO.
Awesome. Mad Max is one of my favourite movies and you're certainly doing it justice here.

Just caught up on this one.
Excellent, that yellow looks awesome, can be a tricky colour.
I'm a big mad max fan so am enjoying this, se what you mean about the kit detail though, I can understand why you were annoyed with it.
