OOOO.

Awesome. Mad Max is one of my favourite movies and you're certainly doing it justice here. 8-)

Just caught up on this one.
Excellent, that yellow looks awesome, can be a tricky colour.
I'm a big mad max fan so am enjoying this, se what you mean about the kit detail though, I can understand why you were annoyed with it.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I don't have any photos ready just yet but last night was spent remasking the body to repair some red over spray that made its way onto the yellow. Also painted the rims, rear wing and some other bits blue. A second cote will be required tonight. Photos to follow

Thanks for the kind words guys. The body has received 5 cotes of clear and just because this is rather unknown waters to me I'm letting it dry before I touch it again.

Before I clear coted it I had to re-mask and do some touch ups on the yellow on the driver side front fender

Image

I also applied the white stripe between the red and blue colors. I'm happy with the finish

Image

Image

I also painted some of the odds and ends like the rims and the rear panel

Image

Image

I decided to use the generic grill and rear deck panels so that I had the good 73 bits should I decided to go back and try to build the original 73 Eleanor again but this time using the 71 Mustang kit.

The wheels are done for now. I will weather and scuff them up before I mount them on the car

I made up my own decals

Picking the right size for the roof

Putting the radiator bracket into place

I can't even begin to describe how bad this kit is and how many times its come close to being smashed against the wall. I don't know what they were thinking when they built this kit but if there ever was a time when someones head was up their own rectum it was when this was made.

I scratched some tabs so the lower valence has something to attach to

Thanks for looking and till next time...

Nice 'little' 3-year gap there :)
Getting the radiator mount in and glued without distorting the body took some skill ...

Yeah, having ADD is a bi#*h. ;-)

If you remember earlier in the thread I cut out the Chevy like humps that AMT thought would work for a FORD engine compartment. Somewhere in my travels I got hold of an older fox body mustang body. I cut out the engine compartment and went to work fitting them into my 73. Now they aren't a perfect match for the 73's engine compartment but its a hell of a lot better then what AMT had in mind.

Next I dechromed the front and rear bumpers because they are too over the top in my opinion. I used a ziplock bag and some easy off oven cleaner for this. The chrome plating just falls off the part in minutes. I then washed the parts, dried and rechromed using Duplacolor (Spelling?) paint I got from an automotive store.

Next I'll paint the rest of the lights, grill, panel and start installing the parts.
