Jo-Han Chrysler 300 '62 and Dodge Dart '62

Post by Sissel »

These two kits were started in my workbench thread. However I am moving them over here.

Work done so far: I've only got to spray the bodies and work a little on the engines and chassis. And just started painting the interior.

Chrysler 300. I added a gloss clear coat. Tried to wax polish one side, but to my surprise there was no difference. I guess the clear coat did the job. Could always add another layer if I need or want to.

Chrysler interior. I really love the colors so am trying to match them. I wont go with all details though, make it a bit simpler maybe. Would be nice with BMF on the seat sides, but due to space this will be hard. I have ordered two silver pens (Tamiya and Gunze, hope they are good!) to use on the small details and lines.

Dodge Dart. This needs another paint job. The light sanding on the primer shows through the paint. This pic also shows me dry fitting engines.

Dart interior colors I'm going for.

I like the colour of the Chrysler. Beer looks good too.

Nice. The Chrysler interior in particular is very eye catching and oh so 50's/60's. They don't make them like that anymore
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

I agree. That interior is looking ace, and I wish I had a real convertible to show it off.

Did some more on the Chrysler interior. Masked off a little for some bluegrey. I was lazy with the seats so offcourse there's been some paint run. But will fix that later.

The mid console will be detailed with the silver pens, they'll probably arrive when I'm on holiday.

The Dart has had another paint job and two gloss coats and I'm very pleased. It is much more shinier than the Chrysler. I might try another gloss coat on the Chrysler but I do like it as it is.

Here's the Dart, had to bring it out in the sun! 8-)

Thank you.
Work on these has been put away till end of August due to blitzbau and holiday. Hope to have them finished in September, doubt I'll get them done before I'm off to London, so make that mid September.

Lovely paint job’s, especially the Chrysler 300, it seem so correct…
I was also think of using wax on my Chevy , but ended up giving it 2 coats of clear.
Looking forward to seeing more of them!

Two Jo-Han kits! I know these aren't the kind of thing that you see too often so it's nice to see them here.

The paintwork looks good. I look forward to seeing more progress on them.

Yeah, they are quite rare. I got them off a friend of my fathers about 8-9 years ago.
He's probably had them for a very long time. Neither of us knew how much they were worth.

Long time since I saw a push button. Plymouth Valiant had it too. Nice work, nice color.

I must admit I had never heard of Jo-Han before I saw these kits being built! Lovely colour and paint job on the Dart Sissel - it looks great sitting out there in the sun!

A push button? :???: I'm confused... as always. :ha:

Cheers, Shaun.
I actually started chroming the Dart, despite me knowing the BMF I have is old and needs replacing. Even put some on, but it cracked pulling off sheet, full of minor cracks all over the sheet too, just looks ugly. But I was eager to see it on, so just had to try.
And guess who managed to scrape/pull off a bit of the paint? Be more careful, Sissel!!!
Anyway, ditched the two sheets, one unopened. A shame, but that's what you get for taking a five year break from modelling! Will order a new batch now.

There's quite a few places on both cars that needs BMF, so this will take time. Some places have fiddly bends. But again, if I do little by little inbetween other models, it shouldn't be bad.
I also have the interior of both to do/finish. :)

If you notice on the far left of the console the are buttons. There is no stick shift on the floor or steering column. The buttons were what changed from park, drive, reverse and so on. Have a look for a 1961 Plymouth Valiant.

Here is a couple links. You will notice the buttons for the dart are horizontal and the valiant are vertical.

http://www.autoservicebountiful.com/196 ... 29_152504/;

Hope that fixes the confusion for you.

I have to question something. Is this a dart or valiant. It looks like a dart with a valiant dash.

No wonder I didn't know what you were talking about. I had no idea about the existense of push buttons instead of stick shift.
You learn something new everyday on this forum.

I haven't posted any pics of the Dart dashboard so don't know how you find it looking like a Valiant. You're not confusing it with the Chrysler interior I posted above?
Just went upstairs and checked the dashboard. It's definitely a Dart, with the horizontal push buttons showing. :)
