A very large 1914 B Type Bus!

Post by PaulBradley »

Some of you may recall my recent appeal for a scan of the Airfix B-Type bus decals, and John R very kindly sent me those. Here's why I wanted them:

My dad completely scratchbuilt this, mostly from wood, but with wheels, axles and various details in metal. It is approx. 1/12 scale, I think; you can get an idea of the size from the various tools and sundries laying around. John's scans were enlarged and cleaned up, then printed up on clear decal paper on our colour laser printer at work (shhh!).

I think you'll agree it turned out very well - I was very impressed, though he's been doing this sort of this for years. Back in the early seventies, he built a 6' long wooden model of a Leander class frigate.....

I was encouraged by my parents - my mum is quite a handy artist, too. I have tried to pass it along to Robin, but her interests lie elsewhere now. Including knitting!

That sort of work always makes me feel inadequate just building kits ... and mostly not finishing them.

I'm happy to have been of assistance.

I love this. What a fabulous model. You can get a lot of Dolls House figures now that would fit this perfectly.

Looks good but you are missing the front route number box.

Just a quick point, if you add this box the airfix decal is wrong, the number should be white on a black background. In real life the box was a glass fronted "light box" and the number was a slide in stencil.

The number plates (US= licence plates) you have put on the engine sides rather than the front and back of the vehicle, the fleet number should be there instead (format B???).

Cheers, Selwyn, but a bit late now I'm afraid - this one's been given to a veterans' group in Britain to auction for funds. ;-)
