Classic kit, PK-452 - oriental instructions, but Made in England on the plastic.
Parts, in 4 colors, of course ....
The only think I am not happy about is the wire wheel representation (see for a better example my aero-auto GB Ulster by Matchbox), but I don't think I'll do anything about it.
And instructions, simple enough, but a bit more complex when painting is figured in ....
And speaking of painting ...
Color codes are:
A, D, H - black
B, K - wine red (B is exterior, K is interior)
C - red brown
E - dark tan leather
F - natural wood
G - rosewood
J - dark grey
L - aluminum
M - brass
N - silver
Any comments, thoughts, suggestions on these ?
The Chinese characters for the two wine-red colors is slightly different - perhaps because on one is interior and one exterior - maybe more texture than color.
But the Chinese characters for the 3 black colors is identical, yet the parts to which applied do not have a pattern - exterior body, chassis, detailing, underside ? Any thoughts on what I might do to get some variation into it all ?
For the wine-red, I started playing in Vallejo and came up with a mix that sorta matched the plastic and the box art, I'll keep fiddling ....
And, yes, this will be my first auto done in Vallejo, so my conversion progresses ....

Though this and the Packard are in the next series up from the rest of the Matchbox car kits, it appears quite straight forward and not as complex as some of those.

I'm sure it's going to be a real peach when it's finished.

Yes, I think once I make some color notations on the assembly side of the drawings, it will become much simpler.JamesPerrin wrote:Though this and the Packard are in the next series up from the rest of the Matchbox car kits, it appears quite straight forward and not as complex as some of those.

That looks good, John. Look at the tiny sprue gates some rather hefty pieces. Good old Matchbox.
So many models, so little time.

Re: Matchbox 1/32 Rolls Royce Phantom
I spent some time today annotating colors on the assembly drawing and thinking about ways to proceed.
I also did some clean-up and test-fit of the chassis, interior, body, and top. I am convinced the instruction sequence is not the best way to go as we had quite an argument over fit. I believe I will glue the interior to the chassis, then force the body to fit, allowing for the roof fit, before I glue it down - and when happy then glue on the roof.
We shall see ....

This looks like it could be a challenging build to me John, what with the separate chassis and body components, but with a bit of care I bet it builds up into a nice replica.

Re: Matchbox 1/32 Rolls Royce Phantom
I have been fiddling around. Once I marked the instruction sheet with the colors, the patterns became clearer and I started assembling things.
The big piece is that all these parts, added to the chassis, are to be painted black. This also allowed me to fix a bent/warped left front frame rail by gluing it to the fender.
And once I finish cleaning things up, that's what I'll do ...
