Re: Sign-up and Chat
Got my build picked out (even though I don't build Spitfires). Have to head up to Hannants tomorrow or Thursday to collect.. I'll keep it under wraps until I actually have the kit it in my hands: bitter experience.

Welcome, the more, the merrier.
On re-reading my post, I have just realised that 'inviting myself in' late in the day rather than asking to join your party might be seen as a bit arrogant. I apologise. However, your gracious response is appreciated.
Break break.

Seems that you can't move on here without coming across Sp*****es and/or Se****es. They're even breeding on one build thread. I don't build them myself mind. I will be watching the builds on this GB as I'm steering clear of GB participation for a while as there are other models in the stash that I want to build and I don't want to buy more models in for the time being. Typically I miss timed the build of my Mk I, ho hum

Attn Mike or Chuck. Would a Seafire MkIII in Irish Air Corp markings play? It is not a Griffon but i think it is post war.

Ask the Irishman! To my mind it's fine: the Seafires that were acquired by ACE in 1947 were modified to be land-based aircraft.. but |I'll let Chuck have the final say...jssel wrote:Attn Mike or Chuck. Go for it. As long as it's post-World War 2.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I would like to play but it will be a late start. Having checked my stash I have a frog MkXIV that would fit the bill or with a few mods it might finish up as a Seafire MkXV or possibly a Seafire Mk17 not sure yet.

Just a quick point are we looking at a/c that were built after the war or just operated after the war?
I only ask as I have a resin Two seater that was operated by the Irish after the war but I think its not a Griffon.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I didn't realise it had to be a Griffon. I must have missed something? First post doesn't say. The PR XIX I'm gonna do is Griffon so I'm safe, think it's the only photo rec with that engine if I'm not mistaken, as I often do.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I may have confused things and I am going to risk confusing them more.
I have renamed this "post-war" vs "late-model". In the initial discussion, I think both terms were used, as was the Griffon engine, but in the restatement (see Chat thread) and the initial post here, only "post-war" was used, with probably the assumption that would be "late-model" also. I just got my terms mixed up. As seen by the questions there is now some confusion and I think Chuck & Michael have said OK to "hand-me-downs" like a Mk.III post-war in the IAC ....
If it needs further correction, let me know ....

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I am still not sure if my Israeli Mk. IXe qualifies. As the Israeli Air Force was formed on May 28, 1948, I assumed it would fit the parameters. Would it be better to qualify by type, i.e. Mk XV onwards rather than dates?jRatz wrote:I may have confused things and I am going to risk confusing them more.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I was under the assumption that any Spitfire/Seafire in use after 1945 was applicable for the GB. Whilst this would mostly be the later models there were still a lot of earlier marks in service all around the globe. am I correct in my thinking??

Re: Sign-up and Chat
My read now is that any Spit properly marked after 1945 is proper.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
That is the correct read as I plan on doing a merlin engine Mk XVI from 1946.jssel wrote:My read now is that any Spit properly marked after 1945 is proper.
