Nice work so far - you're way ahead of me, I've only just painted up the pit!!
Intreasting that you've painted the U/C bays green....I thought the call out was silver?...I may well have painted mine the wrong colour....

There's a method to my madness - I haven't decided whether to do a camo or silver scheme. I believe I'm right in saying that camo Spits had the green wells - either way, it'll be easy to overspray the green with silver if I need to.

Re: Paul Bradley's Airfix 1/72 Spitfire 22/24
Not a lot to report on - no bench time this week.
The wing/fuselage join didn't turn out as nice as I thought - it must have shifted under the tape, as there was a slight ridge on both sides when I removed the tape. Removing them has caused some of the detail to be lost.

Was that a problem with the kit or just the way you taped it?

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

So did the cockpit make the fuselage wider? But then the canopy and wings fit just right? So should modelers aim to widen the fuselage a little?

Probably an issue with the way I taped it. The issue wasn't a gap, but a small vertical displacement. I don't think the cockpit spread the fuselage - the wings DID fit perfectly when I did a dry run.

Re: Paul Bradley's Airfix 1/72 Spitfire 22/24
I had an issue as well, something moved and I ended up with one wing at a higher angle than the other...or of course it might just be my bad building technique.. anyway I've split it and reglued it...leaving me with a nice gap :-(

Re: Paul Bradley's Airfix 1/72 Spitfire 22/24
Not much to report, so no pics - busy doing other things this past weekend, leaving not much time at the bench, and much of that taken up with this 21. But, I did get the tail planes and rudder attached. The wing roots look fine now that I gave them a good sanding. Next up will be a coat of primer to highlight all the seams and issues.
I decided on an HSS scheme for a 22 - 615 Squadron, I believe.

She stands! (The Spitfire that is, not Sissel...)
Ready for a coat of Aluminium.
A couple of minor issues - the U/C legs needed a light sanding to get them to fit in their alloted squares in the wheel wells. And the cannon fit just fine - curiously, without the diameter differential Ralph found - but I managed to break off one of the barrel ends. That'll be fun to fix.....

I can't remember having cannon issues on mine, I remember struggling immensely with the cockpit fit though.

Me too, somebody wrote somewhere here that it was due to the painting affecting the close tolerance fit of the cockpit parts... That's why I thought I'd assemble my XIX before I paint - woth ago.Prisca wrote:PaulBradley wrote:She stands! (The Spitfire that is, not Sissel...)
