Sign-up and Chat

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

A continuation of the original sign-up topic in GB Chat.

This Single Kit GB is for the Airfix new-tool 1/72 Swordfish, in either the wheeled or floatplane boxing.

It starts Saturdsay, 30 March, wherever you are, and ends Tuesday, 30 April, wherever you are.

Assuming your box looks like either of these, you're in ...

Image

After that, you may do what you want with/to it ....

There is one "SPECIAL RULE": Any Swordfish may be assumed to have been on either wheels or floats at some time, so if you have a set of markings you like, build either one to match .... as long as it's reasonably accurate, don't have float-fish at Taranto, etc ....

Now, I'll save everyone the effort of doing, and everyone seeing, the same sprue shots ....

Image

Four sprue, shown front and back, are common to both boxings:

And the float plane 5th sprue ....

And off we go, have fun ....

I know I have this in my stash, went out looking for it tonight but couldn't find it. So given I track it down, I'm in for sure!

Ready with the wheeled version. 5A will be my option. Do not relish the rigging again after building the original.

My model will be a wartime wheeled aircraft using kit decals and will be the first time I have built this new kit, I will use this GB to try out the kit for a planned future build of the three RN Historic Aircraft Flight Blackfish machines. As I said earlier I will be a late starter but building OOB should have no trouble finishing.

That will be an interesting project.

I will do one (but not this build) of my Swordfish in those colo(u)rs with the crew standing in the office, holding the flag and saluting, on a fly-past. That's been on my build list for a long time, but not in a GB context where I might not get what I want from it.

It had to happen. Could someone please give me the measurement of part 11B. That is the front end of the engine with the three braces. I need the overall length from base plate to tip.

Why?

I no longer have the part. I do not remember cutting it from the sprue and it is nowhere to be found. Frankly, the posts that it was attached to have scallops and not the marks of my nipper. All other parts are solidly on the tree.

Just how hard is it to scratch a tapered tube affair anyway. :)

At any rate, I have a nice clean bench and surrounding area.

Jeff, try this.

At the rear is a flange, approx 3/16" dia, 1/32" thick.
The tapered part is more bulbulous, squat, whatever.
It appears to be 10.5/64 at the base (next to flange), curving/bulging to 9/64 at the front, with a length of 4/32.
1/32 for the flange + 4/32 for the bulby part = 5/32" total.

Thanks John. I also found a good engine photo in the in Action book. I'm good.

Waiting on some EZ line then starting mine. I've got the Taranto boxing but will be building the silver pre-war version.
