Has Airfix made a mistake?

I can't find any photos showing the Swordfish having a light on the lower Starboard wing but Airfix has added one is it correct?

So that is what has been bothering me, me who was too lazy or busy to go look ....

Well Done - you appear to have it right, and they do not .... nor do most reviewers, I cannot remember that pointed out before ...

The Mk.I had lights on both wings, after that only the port wing.

Ok. Great information. Just one of the many benefits for this type of Group Build.

Is this were we sign up to Swordfish anonymous ?

My name is Splash and I have a problem, it all started when I joined this GB, originally I just had the two new Swordfish in my stash and was happy to build just the one, but then it happened and I'm hooked. It's got that bad that I have just ordered the Channel Dash set from ModelZone so I can build a black Swordfish and worse still just to remind me how good the kit is I bought this on eBay for less than the cost of the new version.

Guys - would you consider this to be a good build for a first Bi-plane?

Cannel dash set looks good for £9-99, altough the floatplane looks good too.

My opinion only here. It is a great kit but demands attention to the assembly sequence. Could be a bit overwhelming as a first time project. But if you have built a few kits nothing that can not be overcome.

IMO, no. The instructions are complex and there are a few fit issues, but worst is that it is not a simple rigging scheme and Airfix provides you no help whatsoever to do it -- no diagram/sequence and the dimples showing where wires go are incomplete.

IMO, the old Inpact 1/48 'tween wars kits or the old Revell 1/28 WW1 kits are great training kits and they make great finished models. They come with thread and diagrams, they are big enough to allow you to poke around running thread here & there, and they are sturdy. They might not be the scared scale, but they get the job done. Then you can move onto simpler schemes in 1/72 -- start with a simple single-bay biplane like the Sopwith Pup or even a monoplane like the Fokker E.III. There are several methods for rigging and you probably want to try a couple of each to decide which you are most comfortable with.

Thanks Guys - Perhaps I'll leave it for a while then - I do want to have go at a biplane though, so perhaps I'll take a look at something more simple.

I agree with Jeff and John its a great kit but not one for first timers unless you plan to build it but not rig it.

I might suggest you wait for the upcoming Airfix Gladiator new tool - should be out soon.

That's what i was thinking - as much as I like WW1 aircraft, i'm trying to build a collection of RAF WWII single seat fighters so a Gladiator will fit in with this.

I will do a swordfish though - you guys are doing a great job - very inspiring
