Splash's number two ***none finisher****
Time to start another, this time with the wings spread and with wheels.
I see others have had wing fit problems so I'm taking a different approach.
I think Airfix have made the wing spar over complicated and as I found rigging the wings easy as two separate units I have sliced off the strip that stops you pulling the wings off once they are assembled, so the wings can be slid into place.
As you can see from the images, doing it this way the wings dry fit with the top centre with no problem.

Re: Splash's number two
Progress has been swift as I have learnt by my mistakes.
As little is seen in the cockpit I have assembled it first then sprayed it all over green then only painted the parts I can see with black and brown. This time the cockpit fitted with no problem and the fuselarge joined together with no problems.

Re: Splash's number two
I have decided to paint this bird in the colours of 815 NAS as flown on the raid at Taranto.
The top will be EDSG & Dark Slate Grey and all of the underside will be black.

Speedy start?! Not far off decals surely...
Re: Splash's number two
Nice work, it is an over complex kit in my opinion especially for 1/72

Re: Splash's number two
Having searched my decal stash, I couldn't find a white 4M for the tail but did find some black Letraset (dry rub transfers) so I thought lets try some old sixty's techniques that involves using the Letraset as a mask by first painting the letter colour adding the dry rub transfers, over spraying the top coat then using tape lift the dry rub transfer to show the under colour.
I'm happy with the end result and will let it dry and do the other side.

Slight change in plan, last weekend I attended the Aircrewman Association's annual bash and got a commission to build a Swordfish for the Aircrewman who flys back seat in the RN Historic Flights Swordfish.
Not being happy with the colours I had used (to dark) so its given me a chance to paint it in a lighter scheme.
It's too late to finish it within the GB but I will keep you all up to date in my work bench thread.
