Every Cowboy needs a Pony***FINISHED***
Re: Every Cowboy needs a Pony.
So this morning I finished up the cockpit regions and here is the result.
The seatbelt and shoulder harness came off of the Eduard set for USAF and USN seats. The detail on the instrument panel is very fine and I had to re-do it a couple fo times to get the dry brushing to show off the details.
Feeling pretty good at this point the basic airframe went together.
I do not see any need for filler but as you can see, the seams need a little work.

looks great, the seatbelts makes a big difference are you going for an open canopy ?
Re: Every Cowboy needs a Pony.
Yes. The kit gives optional pieces.

Re: Every Cowboy needs a Pony.
In between "stuff", I was able to preshade panel lines and ship it off to the paint shop. OD uppers and NG lowers. Work on the landing gear is on-going.

Re: Every Cowboy needs a Pony.
The neutral grey has been applied with a little pre shading visible. The wheelwell is painted with Testors 1184 yellow zinc chromate. The rear spar will be green zinc chromate.
The underwing position lights get a drop of silver paint before the clear red and blue (green) goes on.
This morning the prop got painted and at lunch break the yellow tips will be added.

Over lunch I finished painting the prop. Plus did some work on the wheel hubs. Depressed areas are steel color and the highlights are aluminum. Can't see much of the tonal differences in this shot.

So now a little transparent red is put on the dot of silver and yous have a position light.
Overview of the build so far.
Decals put on the prop. This issue of the kit have pretty good decals. Good color put slightly out of register. The other things is make sure your alignment is true as once they touch the part, they lock down tight.

Coming along very well, Jeff. Nice pre-shading on the undersides.

Re: Every Cowboy needs a Pony.
Upper surface work today. Various shades of OD used as nearly every picture of P-51B's show a rather patchy faded look. Quite an effort putting the ETO bands on.
