Dirk's 1/72 Monogram P-51B "Ole II"
I have much better Mustang kits in my stash like a few of the new Airfix and a Academy kit or two but this one jumped out at me and I had to get it. Thanks to Jeff I've learned that the fuselage letters on the side are incorrect and I will need to source new ones.
Thanks for looking

I'm not so sure about that but it should be fun. Does anyone know the font used for the fuselage letters? I may have to make my own. Hell I already have the paper...Prisca wrote:Ole ole! This will be a great one, I'm sure

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Monogram P-51B "Ole II"
Did not mean to rain on your parade Dirk. But on the positive side, the letters would just be block letters with no angles to worry about.
But (and correct me if I am wrong) the angle would be 60deg for others letters.
This a great kit Dirk and you will do very well with it.

No worries Jeff. I appreciate the info before hand rather than after the fact.

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Monogram P-51B "Ole II"
I was perusing youtube and saw some really fantastic builds. They've rekindled a desire to build a few more winged things. As for my current build the Parts primed and some removal of the flash has started. More to follow....
Oh before I forget, does anyone know what font the fuselage call letters are in? If you remember from an earlier post I have to redue the kit letters because they are wrong. Also does anyone have any photos of this actual aircraft?

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Monogram P-51B "Ole II"
Ok progress is underway on "Ole II"
I brush painted the interior with some Interior green and Dull Green as per the IPMS Stockholm website which describes among other things interior colors for US aircraft of WWII. I'm a little disappointed in how it turned out but when the canopy is in place it will barley be visible so whet the heck, eh.... The pilot was also painted.
Pilot in place
Fuselage cleaned and joined together
Wings and rear control surfaces in place
Sorry for the poor pictures but my kids broke my camera and I haven't replaced it yet. These photos were taken with my Razor HD. Till next time, thanks for looking

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Monogram P-51B "Ole II"
Construction is just about completed. As I stated earlier I'm going to put this one in flight so I can get rid of the landing gear and close up the doors. The only problem is this... If you look closely at the edges around the gear door openings there are some little tabs that hold the doors in the closed position. The problem is they are on the outside of the wing instead of the inside. I needed to add the gear doors prior to installing the wing. What I need to do is fill the space under the gear door.
To do this I choose to use this two part epoxy. I mixed it up and filled the wheel bays. Then took the doors and pressed them into the epoxy.
I filled and sanded the seams, and masked the canopy.
Some of you might recognize the P-51A pictured with Ole II. It was from a build I started over a year ago but I ran out of patience with it. It seemed every time i tried to do touchups I used the wrong color white and was getting sloppy so I put it aside and forgot about it. I'll attempt the build again another time but for now I decided to build it up as it is on the box art but first I need to strip it down so its into the a ziploc bag with some oven cleaner.
Thanks for looking

Re: Dirk's 1/72 Monogram P-51B "Ole II"
Thanks for the kind words Jeff. Well the B is moving along. I don't expect to get the A done by the deadline as there is a lot of cleanup to be done on it. My focuse will be on the B (Ole II) and the D (Detroit Miss). Anything other then that is gravy.
