Re: Lancfan's Change of plan- Revell P-51B RAF Mustang III
Nice start David. I just picked one of these up so will watch with interest.
Do you think it could be blitzed?

If built OOB it could certainly be blitzed, it is a very easy build.

The flaps have been built up with filler, sanded to shape and here one is in place whilst the other is shown next to the model.

Re: Lancfan's Revell P-51B RAF Mustang III
The Mustang is now in one piece with the elevators altered as I did for the quartet build, the lowered flaps needed a little more preparation than the ready made ones in the Airfix kit but the whole process was quite painless.
Now primed in a grey wash, the model is ready to be painted after I have brought the last Airfix build up to the same state.
When building this kit I have realised that this is the kit I should combine with the Italeri fuselage when I eventually get around to building the Mustang I/II model.

Re: Lancfan's Revell P-51B RAF Mustang III
Thanks Greg, Shaun.
The engraved surface detail on this kit is very fine indeed and can be easily swamped by an overly generous painter so it is most important not to apply too much paint when using a brush on this model.
When the primer had dried the final colours were then sparingly applied with thinned acrylics starting with the undersurfaces in Revell 76, the top surfaces came next with Humbrol 106 and lastly the disruptive was applied in Revell 68. The next step is to gloss varnish where needed for the decals and then apply those when the varnish has dried.

Re: Lancfan's Revell P-51B RAF Mustang III
After seeing Jessel's build I decided to have a go at opening up the canopy of my 'B' Mustang, with the decals now on and the airframe matt varnished it was time to take a leap at this and have a go. As a precaution I filled it with plasticene to prevent breakages as I don't have any spare early canopies'for this kit, in the end it worked out fine.

Re: Lancfan's Revell P-51B RAF Mustang III
Nice paint job David and good work with opening the canopy - not a straightforward opener and it takes a bit of nerve to plunge in with no spare and the model almost finished!
