Now the good weather has arrived I do not get much time for modelling, but over the last few days I have been able to do some bits and pieces.

The construction has been completed:

And a base coat of Ochre Brown has been applied:

Due to time constraints I am also going to simplify my diorama for now and just go with a tyre change. I melted one of the tyre's using and old knife and a candle, then painted them up:

Image

I have also started work on the figures, the driver will be changing the tyre, and the 'newly arrived in theater' Rommel will be looking on whilst deep in thought:

Still battling on with this, I have now applied a lighter coat of Ochre Brown over the upper surfaces to simulate bleaching by the sun. I fitted the spare tyre on the front, and also masked the interior whilst doing this as the sun would not get to these areas.

The pump that is stored on the engine cover has had its rubber tube added (made from a length of plastic tube):

I have also done a bit more work on the driver figure:

Construction of the vehicle is almost complete:

Image

I have realised that there is not an exhaust system supplied, so I have decided to fashion one out of a piece of plastic tube (from a WD40 oil spray can) and a piece of thin garden wire:

I will paint it before gluing into position.

Good stuff going on here. In reference to James comment, there was a guy where I live who had a VW "Thing". He painted it up in DAK markings and put a knobby trailer tire on the hood. It looked very convincing especially sitting next to my friends WWII Jeep. Your figure painting is quite nice.

After a good day at the bench I have managed to get this completed:

I am really pleased with the way it turned out, especially the figures.
