Finally, some time to work at the bench.

I added a couple of extra bits in the cab, finished the suspension and bonnet and did a bit more detail work on the interior.

Image

Then a coat of Vallejo sand primer on the cab and interior.

Image

I'll probably spray the undersides with dark grey primer first. The tyres were sprayed in the dark grey, and the rims/hub caps in the sand primer.

cheers

Off to a good start. I look forward to seeing some glasses of Carlsberg in this scale...

Coming along nicely and, by pure coincidence, I'm enjoying a glass of Carlsberg as I'm reading this thread

I roughly taped up the sides and top, so I could squirt some paint into the interior. I first put a very light brown in, followed by white. The idea is to end up with an off-white interior.

Image

Once the paint is dry, I'll dismantle it, paint and highlight the interior details and add the stretcher racks.

The interior detail is not looking too bad, it will certainly be "busy" enough inside.

Image

I am not that thrilled with the fit of the sides or top, or bulkhead for that matter. SOmething seems to be out of alignment. I suspect the cab and windscreen. As one corner of the thinned windscreen has already broken off , I may be able to fix that.

I wonder if there's a little warpage in the floor panel, which could have thrown your cab and body out of alignment a little. It's difficult to say looking at photos but, in any event, this sort of build up with several separate panels can cause fit issues as I've experienced with my much newer Revell Merc kit. The windscreen surround could be repaired using some sprue or rod perhaps (you could also bend some wire  ).

The warpage theory is very plausible, and what I am doing is gluing one panel at a time to check for alignment.

Image

I've glued the right hand side into place and have the bulkhead and roof positioned in reasonable places. If this works, then I'll check the left side to see if that's okay. It's going to be slow, but hopefully it will result in something fairly well squared up.

Image

The windscreen I intend to make out of a bit of acetate, and then add framing from tape or something like that. ( already do have a bit of bent wire in the back of the K2 - there's a pair of hooks to sling a medical pack on. I haven't made the medical pack yet!

cheers

For your alignment problem, perhaps you could use a splint?
(See how I've used a medical term there)

I installed the tyre in the back of the cab, after gluing the bulkhead firmly in. Bad move. I should have put the tyre on the bulkhead first. Anyhow no harm done. I've added a few basic colours to the cab - faded light green seat covers, a brown for the box with the Carlesberg, and a buff colour for the jerrycan. There'll need to be a few more things done to that area later. I've also added red crosses to the ceiling mounted lockers which go by the door. Some K2s seem to have them, others not.

Image

In the back, the cushion which runs along the wall has been painted an institutional green colour (RLM 02 actually!) and the wall has been given a sepia wash.

Image

The beds have been given an extra coat of primer.

Image

Not bad progress for the afternoon session.

cheers

Nice work Andrew and hopefully the alignment issue will not present you with too many difficulties.
