Lancfan's Landy FC Ambulance *** FINISHED ***

Post by lancfan »

Having lost some time due to PC problems I picked a simple second model to end the GB with but it is a little too simple and I have dug this one out to make the build a little more challenging as we race to the finish.
My third build, the brilliant Airfix/JB 1/76 Land Rover FC Ambulance.
Here are the box and sprue shots, the parts are now being washed and pre-painting will commence this afternoon.

The pre-paintimg has been put down and initial assembly has been done. The basic interior has also been painted.

With the sides and front crosspiece in place the model begins to look like a Landy.

A Forward Control Landy! (a mate of mine was very much into Land Rovers and I've spent a fair bit of time in and/or under them!) great choice David and it's coming along nicely.

Great stuff. I just dug out an FC101 'One tonne' to do because I thought you can't have a service vehicle build without a Landrover in it and you beat me to it David.

All the best.

Nearly finished now and the decals are going on with the final parts, I separated the crosses from the kit decal sheet and wet them- only to discover that they weren't as stable as the current Cartograph transfers. The roof cross went on with just a small corner piece lost but the side crosses dissolved into tiny pieces, luckily I had some ancient Esci ambulance crosses to replace them, (saved by Esci again) the white is slightly creamy and the red is a little brighter but they have served the purpose. The number plates have been varnished as a precaution before I try to apply them.

my Landy is now finished, I really like these ex. JB kits, they are simple yet build into impressive models, the clear panels including the windows are amazing and yet nobody has copied the idea- even Airfix who bought the JB tools have not adopted this feature. As good as the new tool military vehicles are this feature along with the accuracy and fit still make these kits that little bit better than the rest. This one was rushed but I think I will build another one outside of a GB and do this brilliant little kit (or maybe all four Landies) more justice.

That looks excellent David. I've yet to try one of these ex-JB kits but from what I've seen they seem to build up very well.
