Murfv's FAA pirate * *DNF* *

Post by Murfv »

I have retrieved this rather sorry looking Fujimi A-7E from my pile of unfulfilled potential, with the
plan of finishing it in the colours of 809 squadron, FAA.
The inspiration comes from profile on a 'what if' thread that I saw on another forum which featured
a Corsair II in Extra Dark Sea Gray/White scheme as used by the FAA on various types
(e.g. Sea Vixen & Phantom) in the 60's & 70's.
Image
First off was to give the kit a good clean & sanding to remove some of the years of grime and less
than perfect layers of paint which had been applied.
Image
Image
An inventory of the parts showed that a number of the bits had gone astray over time(most of the U/C,
as well as one of the tailplanes) and as a result of this I made the decision to complete the Corsair in flight.
I have fitted the U/C doors and will be giving it a blast of halfords best get started.
I will be replacing the tail planes with ones from a scrapped Airfix A-7.

Thanks
Vincent

I think EDSG over white will look a lot better on this that the USN light gull grey over white. And British roundels look great on anything!

Time for a little progress report, not a huge amount done over the last week due to an unexpected outbreak of
fine weather locally(clear sky's and temps in the low to mid 20's :omg almost totally unheard off here at this
time of year) which distracted me from getting more done.

Anyway, after a good going over with the micro mesh, I gave the Corsair a blast of Halfords white primer(will do for
the underside colour too) to blend the bare plastic u/c doors in with the rest of the airframe.
Image
A quick sanding overall to smooth out any imperfections in the white and then out with the masking tape.
Image
With all necessary underside area's masked, out came the EDSG, I am using the Mr.Hobby acrylic for the first
time, mixed 1:1 with Mr.Color thinner, and found it to be straight forward to use and gave impressive results with fast
drying time and excellent coverage.

Next will be some detail painting, complete the cockpit with the pilot and give a couple coats of gloss to
get ready for decals.

Thanks for looking

Regret to report that I this one did get finished by the deadline
due to unplanned outbreak of domestic reality.
I did get the painting done but still have to make a start on the decals
once I have a couple of coats of Klear on.
Progress to date

I will be finishing this mission over the next few weeks and will post photos
of the completed a/c in the appropriate area.

Cheers
