I couldn't decide which scheme so I printed both out. Will probably go for the German as painting is much easier and I'm very lazy. And need a quick build after my daze with the three P-51s in the Mustang GB.
Oh, and the rudder decal of the Italian scheme will just look odd on the P-51. But it's an odd kit...

I think the German scheme will look good on the Mustang.

Took a few hours break from the sun today and decided to get back to modelling.

So why not start on this beloved kit?!

I forgot to take pics in the beginning, please forgive me. I was rushing...
Being the lazy modeller I am I have decided to do the German scheme, as I was drawn to that scheme from the beginning. ;-) Plus it will match the plane better than the Italian.

Fuselage shows no major gaps when stuck together. Cockpit fits okay. Lots of flash everywhere. Rudder was 2mm wider/taller on one part, so I sanded down to match. Needs more sanding. There's also gaps from back wings to fuselage (seen from underneath), the hole is far too big, and they're just dangling back and forth. Normal glue didn't help so I will try with superglue next.
I almost had to amputate Goglov's feet, but he prayed me not to, so I listened for once.

Wings glued. Very interesting picture!

The only part that is touching fuselage is circled in. :-D

So I am laying the Stang like this for glue to dry, so any wing sides wont slip 'out of position'. Then I will enjoy puttying it up!

Just missing the yellow on the blades.

Now I'm gonna get back outside 8-)

I didn't realise that kit was such a bad fit :omg It reminds me of the Airfix Airacobra

Still, the paintwork should make it look nice.

Cheers

Yep, the fit is really bad. But so is the tooling. Looks all wrong for a Mustang. Which is why I thought I'd save it for this GB.

I blitzed the Airacobra back in February, a bad kit, but a build I enjoyed.

I can only hope so.

Hope you have a couple of tubes of filler, Sissel. You're going to need it!

So,let me get this right. You are going to make all that filler into a Moosetanng.Thats some hell of a job,Whats the old Revell kit got to do with it?
Serious though no doubt we will get a silk purse out of the old sows ear, keep up the good work.

I think she might get a better looking plane if she did use all that filler instead of using that Revell 'classic'.

I kind of agree with Ian, sand all those raised bumps off and make it smooth and shiny.

It will also help with applying and sanding the putty. Which usually throws all the detail in the bin.

It does make you wonder why Revell issue this kit, when they also have the old Matchbox tooling, which is way better.

I'd get some plastic card shims in those gaps before going for the filler.

Cheers

Exactly! Strange indeed.

Oh and thanks guys for not raising the hopes up! :ha:
Being dead sick of modelling (just not fun anymore, will probably take a break in a while) I will not fuss too much with this kit. Don't really care about detail here. I'm just gonna put it together, paint, throw decals on, then put it on the bottom shelf in the cabinet. ;-)

I was first gonna save it for the Blitzbau, but then I remembered this GB :-D

Played a bit with plastic putty, looks like this now. Slow progress is better than no progress they say.
Wait a minute. Doh! I have milliput! Hah too late now.. :ha:

Sanding, tape removal, a bit more sanding and we are here.
I'm pleased with the result. Not perfect, but good enough for me.

PS: I know Goglov looks ugly, I might fix him up later, if I bother :-D

Surprised revell still has the gall to sell that kit, one of the worst all time.
