Viking's Canadair CF-39 Grippen

Post by Viking »

At work at the moment so will add pictures later.

the kit is a "bag-o-bits" Italeri Grippen which had been started that i inherited and stuck in the loft, looks like all the parts are present and will make a nice quick straightforward build.

i do like a back story, so: early 2010, Canada had re-opened evaluation of replacements for its CF-18 Hornets after the disaster that is the JSF-35. One of the criticial evaluation tools was that the new plane must be built in Canada. Saab won the contract and the old Canadair facility that built Sabres was reopened.

The CF-39 Griffen was rolled out in early 2013; to the surprise of many it was not finished in boring air superiority grey but, in a nod to the 60th Anniversary of Sabre operations in Germany, it was finished in the markings of 422 Squadron from 1953.

pix as promised:

the box of bits in the bag; some painting started but looks like alclad primer on the aluminium parts so all good :) a very simple kit with only a very few parts, but looks good.

the decal set with the Canadian Sabres

and the various options; we will end up with, probably, a combination of 2 and 4.

I guess with the wing blending into the fuselage you'll have to move the roundels forward under the canopy?
