Gloster Meteor GB Sign Up and Chat

Post by PaulBradley »

Quick as a flash, July is almost upon us. Time to dig out your Meteors and re-confirm your participation!

GB last from July 1 to July 31, any Meteor in any scale is eligible. Standard GB rules apply.

I haven't decided for sure which kit I'll be building - I might set up a poll and let you guys decide!

All I have is the Airfix Meteor III. I have no references - the library stops at Lysander and starts again with Mosquito and everything has props .... Doesn't look like much for color schemes, I had hoped for a prototype or target tug, but no ....

I guess I'll do a white one just to be different -- from a couple photos it appears to be a rather rough coat, probably applied over the existing OG/DG/MSG ? or were they stripped down then "white-washed" ?

I'll start but no guarantee that I'll finish. It'll be a MB NF which version and which markings (I've at least two Modeldecal sheets so loads of choice) yet to be decided.

It was whitewashed over the existing camo finish, and wore off pretty rapidly. See my build in the previous builds thread for my interpretation.

I have the old Airfix Meteor III to build, but depending on my workload, I might try for a Trent powered Meteor, i'm not sure my scratch building skills are good enough so plan "B" will be an OOB Meteor III.

This needed to be a real CBK so to that goal I will build the Airfix Mk III. Looked over a couple builds on this and the old site and pretty much decided that it is good if basic kit. So.........ordered up BarricudaCals 72007 Meteor Mk III sheet for 616 Sqdn as the Airfix sheet is hosed. We do not get the sun this far north to bleach it out.

Anyone know the style of box that featured the punch out to allow hanging on a peg? Thought it was the Type 3 boxing.
