Meteor References

Post by PaulBradley »

Here's the place to post photos of the real thing, ask historical questions and to post historical reference material.

Please observe our FAQ re:copyright, etc.

There doesn't appear to be a central Meteor website, as there seems to be for many other aircraft types. However, there are some good printed references.

Barry Jones produced this goodie in the Crowood series:

Lots of useful info and photos.

SAM featured both the single- and two-seat Meteors as their Aircraft n Detail. The single seaters are in a Volume 1 issue that I don't have, but the Night Fighters are featured in V9/No3:

SAM Pubs has this one - not one of their better ones as far as I am concerned. I am not happy with some of the kit reviews in this one. The walkarounds are quite sparse, and the historical section is a bit skimpy.

I don't think I'll be involved in building any Meteors for the GB but here's some close ups I took of the (almost) restored T7 two years ago. It made its first post restoration flight only a few weeks later.

A close up of the engine intake.. The view inside is very different to that seen with an axial flow engine -
