Have you decided on colours and markings - there are so many choices for the F.4!

It's a nice kit David, it's not a new one it's the old MPM kit, but it does build well

The only thing to watch out for with this kit is the way the wheel wells are separate mouldings and are attached to the top wing section and might need some ajusting to get a good fit, the other thing was the outer wing panels are only but joined and might be difficult to align.

You will enjoy the build I did.

Hi Splash, thanks for the heads up on the MPM kit, I like the detailing and finish of the parts and being in a blue box lowers the price somewhat, unfortunately I missed the Airfix mk8 boxing altogether. This won't be a massed build as per the Mustang GB as this mk4 is the only one in the stash, I do plan to build meteors as a theme when I can stock up on kits.

Making a start on the cockpit, the floor and rear bulkhead are poorly located in this kit so I have held them in place with plasticene until the glue dries and I can safely build up the rest of the office.

The cockpit has ben painted, fuselage assembled and the lead ballast weights have been made up. I always prefer to use a little more weight behind and underneath a cokpit rather than risk leaving too little in the extreme nose and risk the hatching of another example of the dreaded 'lessser-weighted tail sitter'.

Looks good so far David. What's that lead you are using for the weight and how did you get it into that shape?

Narayan, its' old lead flashing (roofing lead) thrown out by workmen when a neighbour had a chimney blocked off. This is simply 1/16" lead sheet, I rolled it up using pliers and a small hammer and finally filed the top to conform to the shape of the upper decking.

That's a great place to stuff the lead.

I must check to see if it will work on the Airfix MkIII.

It should do Splash as the kit layouts are so similar.

With the wing tips and engine cowling ends in place the wing can next be fitted to the fuselage. I usually fit elevators in the resting position but have decided to go in another direction for this model and I have fitted the locking bars to the control column.
Image

This kit needed some adjustment to properly fit together and not having made an MPM kit before this one is a first for me.
This will build into a good model but given the work needed to get it there I think MPM price these too high.
I can't argue with the Revell price though which seems quite fair.

Looking very good, David - aside from the intake rings, the fit doesn't seem too bad for an MPM kit...
