Ok, here is the prelim's.

Boxart:

Image

You simply have to love that box art. The box by the way has a "punch out" hanger for a peg display. Type 3 design perhaps?

Innards:

Image

Looks simple enough. I may try to scribe new panel lines into it. We'll see.

Decals:

Image

Yellowed for sure but since the sun is in the northern hemisphere, let's see what it can do. I have ordered the BarricudaCals Meteor III sheet which makes this a mute point. And I have been collecting the black line decal film off the newer Airfix sheets that separate the subjects. Perfect wing walk lines.

I have also printed out some three view drawings to assist. Except for the dog tooth ailerons, everything looks in the right place.

Ready to press tomorrow the oneth on July.

Interesting to see that your box art does not have the burning truck on it like my one:

Yes it does, you can see the smoke, but it has been covered over by the "banner" in the lower right corner ....

So we are off and running. Was up early this morning and spent a pleasant moment on the bench.

Image

Taped the main frame together and began determining just how much weight to add. Now, where to put it. Test fitting shows that there are now real issues at this point. Not going to worry about the cockpit area as the canopy will be closed and the pilot figure added. I really like the sculpturing of the pilot figure. Other than the grasping of the crotch Johnny looks up to the task.

Image

Taking a pencil I outlined the wheel well and will do things there.

Image

The landing gear. The mains are on the left after adzing off the mold lines. Nose gear on the right before. Personally I think they look fine after a little clean up.

Image

Splitter plates added to the engine nacelles. Doesn't appear that much work will be needed here with clean up. Just a little careful painting.

The front of the engine nacelles are a useful place for extra weight on this one.

All the best.

The instructions in my kit say 8 gr nose weight -- too little ?

Probably - the Meteor is a notorious tail-sitter. I'd add as much as will fit.......

I plan on packing the nose and forward nacelles and a homemade box directly behind the seat. My instructions do not mention weight or colo(u)r callouts. Lots of references out there.

Had some progress over the last couple of days but did not have the where with all to upload pictures.

Did some wheel well work:

Image

Along with that bare metal foil was used to highlight the landing light. Black dot marks the filament.

Here is the wheelwell with some paint added.

Image

So the overview so far. A bulkhead was added in the space behind the seat in which weight will be added. Black paint added throughout the cockpt area. Ailerons have recieved some filler to correct the "dogtooth".

Image

Test fit of all the components went well with no real issues to report.

That's coming along very nicely Jeff. As others have said the boxart is excellent. I like those older Airfix kits with the banner in the bottom corner.

Forgot my SD card today so will post pictures tomorrow. Work on the wings included re-scribing the trim tab and filling the "dogtooth" ailerons.

Time to start packing in the nose weights and buttoning up the fuselage.
