John's Mk.III ** DNF ** but still working away
Re: John's Mk.III
That is correct John. As I read it, no brakes on the uppers.

Caruana/Franks says no air brakes. Make of that what you will.

Yes, I believe that would be correct, from a period photo ....

Some differences on the DG202/G;
The windscreen has a steeper slope, The rear solid area has a concave flute on each side [this solid portion could be fashioned from a bomb half], no acorn fairing on tail plane/vertical stabiliser, no ant-Daunts in the engine fronts, two canon fairings on each side of the nose, extended exhaust outlets on each engine

Thank you, now that I look at the photo in the Putnam book closer, I do see the cannon fairings ....fredk wrote:Some differences on the DG202/G;

Are "anti-Daunts" the horizontal splitters ? I do see them in a period photo of DG202, although it appears to be somewhat later as it has also grown the acorn fairing ? If no splitters, what would be there/visible, fan blades ?

Hi John
The Meteor engines had centrifugal compressors so you would not see the blades as the air intake was on the side of the engine not on the front like the normal co-axle engines we are now so used to seeing.

Re: John's Mk.III
Regarding Michael Daunt, Meteor Test Piliot - "He was probably the first ever person to be sucked into a jet engine, luckily for him there was no front end compressor blades that you can see on modern jet engines. Equally lucky, his wide shoulders prevented him from entering the nacelle. Using the word lucky again, he kept his mouth shut otherwise his lungs would have instantly emptied of oxygen. After this accident the Meteor was fitted with a grill called the “Daunt defender”."

Re: John's Mk.III
Wings together - a bit of excitement as I forgot the splitters until well set and so had to trim them a bit to get them inside. I'm working on removing the upper speed brakes I had already installed, so that is taking more effort than it should have.
Fuselage together. Some weight in the nose, I'll add some more, then fill behind the seat, ahead of the gear. I have removed the acorn fairing from the tail and am still feathering that in properly.
Progress .... but tomorrow my assigned task is to ensure granddaughter gets to catch a fish .. and it very warm and windy so they aren't biting much. I hate to think about sticking an emergency one in my pocket at 85-degrees, but ....

Re: John's Mk.III
This probably looks like the last picture, but things have happened.
The fuselage is full of weight, over 10gr, the kit recommended 8gr. Yes you can see steel shot sitting behind the seat, but on the prototype a solid piece of canopy covered that over.
I oversanded the air brakes and created a little swale so I'm refilling and sanding that down. I have to decide if I want to take down the lines and rivets or try to leave them there neatly - I suspect I will take them off.

Re: John's Mk.III
Another picture, much like the other pictures ....
But, the raised panel lines and rivets are gone, or at least a shadow of their former selves -- just need a bit of polishing to get a smooth surface. I have started the trim tab and aileron fixes that Jeff pointed out (Thanks ).
I have decided, by a simple test, there is more than enough weight up front and so that's a closed issue.
