F.4, No. 600 Squadron, RAAF, Biggin Hill - 1951
Hello there!
I haven't built a Meteor before so I'm really looking forward to this one. I'm even going to take it on holiday if I haven't got it finished in 3 weeks time!
According to the instructions everything inside the aircraft is just flat black. Hmmm. Not so sure about that so I'll have to look for a few interior shots.

If you look at the office in this Dutch F.4 (ex-RAF), there's a bit of interior green too!Narayan wrote:OK, looks like the office is all black.

To counter that I have found other cockpit shots of meteors with all-black cockpits so could the green be a Dutch feature?

Only at tulip time.
Sorry, couldn't resist.....
That's an oddity, as all the other Metoer cockpits I've checked out were all black.

LOL,
But was it an oddity or sloppy amateurish restoration?

Looking at the photos closely you can just make out what look like a few flecks of black on the interior green. I wonder if the Meteor was primed with interior green then over painted black. So when a restoration was done and paint stripped off it would take it back to the green? Just a hypothesis...

OK, I've made a start on her today. First off some sprue shots if anyone is interested. I believe the moulding is an MPM one.
Today I have mostly been putting the office together and painting a few pieces. I'll post pictures of these when they are a bit more complete.
I made a bit of a mess of the wheel wells. They are supposed to be painted the same colour as the fuselage (silver / aluminium) but for some reason I mis-read the instructions and painted them flat black . I wiped them down and I'm actually pleased with the result. I'm hoping when I apply a coat of silver they'll look a little more authentic.
I'd like to think I've stumbled upon something here. Of course it could be I've just made a mess of it but atleast it's the underside that will hardly be seen

Anyone know what is the more appropriate colour scheme for this aircraft? I'm using Humbrol enamels so I'm thinking either Aluminium (H56) or Silver (H11). Silver would be handy as I have it in a rattle can. But I'm really leaning towards Aluminium.

I'm using Tamiya Flat Aluminium on mine, so any Aluminium is probably close to High Speed Silver. or you could use Humbrol Silver with an over spray of Matt Varnish to dull it down to something close.

I would say Hu11 silver as some brands of alluminium have a darker tint, the actual colour was a smooth non reflective silver finish called 'High Speed Silver' that did not reflect or shine- when the decals are on matt varnish the model to kill off the shine completely and it should be fine (unless you have a bright alluminium that doesn't reflect that would do).

I've put some fishing weights in the nose for this one. I'll be adding some more under the pilot before putting the fuselage together.

I've been experimenting with Humbrol 27001 for High Speed Silver; I find the MetalCotes airbrush better than the older Metallics.Narayan wrote:Anyone know what is the more appropriate colour scheme for this aircraft? 27001 is identified as 'Aluminium' as opposed to 27002 which is 'Polished Aluminium' and is very shiny. But 27001 has a very satin, almost matt finish which seems to suit HSS, whereas 27002 is more like a shiny Natural Metal Finish.
The both airbrush well and require less undercoat than the metallic Humbrols.
