I don't want to start an argument Chris, let's just say that I consider "very likely" would be an extreme over-simplification. A much more accurate statement IMO would be along the lines of: new equipment coming straight from the factory was overall dark yellow. Older equipment would be either panzer grey or dark yellow, depending on the circumstances of the particular vehicle, but yellow would have been more common IMO. Most vehicles were then re-painted in the field in the weeks before the battle commenced, over-spraying the base colour with green or brown or both. The exact patterns and colour proportions used varied widely. Quite a bit of effort was put into this, it was not low-priority for any unit involved in the battle.
In fact the most common camo at Kurst was Dark gray broken up by the new issue dunkel gelb.
I really believe that to be an incorrect statement. I'm not sure that any particular pattern could be called "most common".
Some fine references on this are available, such as the panzer colors series and SS armo, both from squadron signal publications.
A lot of old-timers swear by those books, but there's been a lot more research done in the decades since they were first published. I would not take them as a "last word" reference. The best reference is a photo of the particular vehicle being depicted, but of course such photos are not always as clear as we would like, when they're available at all. Next best would be photos of other vehicles from the same unit. (Pictures of other vehicles from other units would not really be useful at all except in a very general sense.) Colour drawings from much more recent reputable publications than the above can be useful, since they usually reflect the most recent available research (although it can be hard to determine which works are "reputable").

All that being said, it would be difficult to prove that any particular scheme was wrong, thus giving the modeller quite a bit of latitude; but IMO the balance of the available research indicates that a vehicle in plain panzer grey with no over-sprayed camouflage at all would be the least likely possibility.

Thanks Chris. Sorry for the lack of commitment so far to this GB, but work has been getting in the way. I have made a start now though.

Aaaargh! one week left for me then as we're on holiday for the final week of this GB. Oh dear, I think my build is unfortunately heading for the DNF category as I'm busy with real life stuff for most of this weekend. Bugger.

Indeed so Chris. Ho hum. I'll get as much done as I can and then more than likely the model will end up being finished in the AFV section of the forum when I get back from my jollies. I've very much enjoyed this GB though and thanks for being the Honcho

Well, this is the last day for this GB boys. As of right now, we completed 7 of the 12 builds that were started, quite a feat, you guys all deserve a hand for it!

I'd like to take a moment and thank you all for joining and taking part in my first attempt at GB leader and for making it a sucess, thanks again guys!

For those who didn't finish, no worries, there will be other builds and other times!
